Hi Product Hunt, I'm Bill Gross. I've started more than 175 companies at Idealab since 1996.
Recently I watched AI outperform a brainstorming skill I had spent decades building. I could have kept it. Instead we scaled it and are giving it away.
What Idealab.ai does today:
1. Reads news, research and patents for problems people actually have, and pairs each with the shift that makes a solution possible now.
2. Turns them into more than 1.2 million business ideas you can search free.
3. Lets you sharpen any idea in Labs, or bring your own.
What it does not do: build the company for you. You decide, you build, you own the result.
Ideas are cheap now. What is scarce is the person whose experience makes them the right one to build a particular idea.
That is who this is for.
One question for you: which idea did you find that you would actually build, and what would stop you?
Yep, love the concept. Idealab was definitely ahead of its time!
I’d like to know how people here compare this to Idea Browser, as that’s where I usually get my researched and verified ideas to share with my startup community. 🤔
Thanks @sat2!
Fair question, and Idea Browser is a good product, so here is the honest comparison.
Idea Browser gives you a curated catalog (around 2,000 ideas, one new one a day with a full walkthrough) and a community around it. The ideas are picked for you.
Idealab.ai starts from the other end: 1.2M ideas generated from problems found in news, research and patents, paired with the shift that makes a solution possible now. You put in your background, capital and the time you have, and it narrows to the ones you are positioned to build. Each brief links back to the evidence it came from.
So the difference is breadth plus matching versus curation. If your community already knows what they want to build, Idea Browser’s depth per idea is really good. If they are still looking for the one that fits them, that is who we built this for.
Would be interested in the comparison from your side: run a few of your community’s profiles through it and tell us where the ideas came out weaker or stronger than what you share from Idea Browser.
