Never lose progress when you leave your desk. LidCommit is an autonomous Rust daemon with a sleek dark-mode desktop GUI that detects when your laptop lid closes, summarizes your diffs using Gemini, Ollama, or OpenAI, and pushes safely to GitHub with built-in secret scanning.

Hey Product Hunt! π
Iβm Anshu, the creator of LidCommit.
As developers, we constantly close our laptops to grab lunch, hop on a call, or head home, often leaving hours of uncommitted work sitting on local disks. If you switch to another device or machine, you're stuck without your changes.
I built LidCommit to make continuous saving completely frictionless:
- π Zero CPU Polling: Monitors native OS lid-switch interrupts instead of burning battery with constant timers.
- π€ Smart Commit Messages: Automatically crafts clean, descriptive git messages from your actual diff using Gemini 2.0 Flash, OpenAI, or local Ollama instances (with zero-config timestamp fallbacks if offline).
- π‘οΈ Built-in Security Wall: Automatically halts commits if `.env` files, AWS/Gemini keys, or cryptographic secrets are detected.
- π₯οΈ Native Desktop Dashboard: Pitch-black modern UI with live commit logs, per-project pause toggles, and instant manual sync buttons.
- πͺ 1-Click Setup Installer: Standard `.exe` installer for Windows with Start Menu shortcuts and background startup options, plus pre-built macOS & Linux binaries.
It's 100% free and open-source under MIT. I'd love to hear your feedback, questions, or ideas for v0.4.0! π

An automatic commit is useful as a checkpoint, even when the work isn't ready for review. I'd want those saves to be easy to tell apart from changes I've deliberately finished.
Love the built-in secret scanning. Accidentally pushing API keys is no fun, and forgetting to commit changes happens more often than it should π Nice to have something that automatically saves and pushes code to GitHub. Congrats!
