Congrats on the launch! 🎉 Really like the "Alternative Component Library Packages". It's just like browsing Amazon and seeing the "Similar Items" section. It would be super cool to have see how this could be taken one step further in the future and suggest "packages/components use together w/ this package". Overall really like the product(:
Thanks @pladevall!
Wow that's a great idea.
We were totally focused on alternatives and comparison, but obviously there's so much cool stuff around the world of bundling (this package fits with that package).
We should start curating some of that data.
Hello Product Hunt! 😻
After months of hard work, we are very excited to introduce you to Openbase!
Openbase.com helps developers choose the right open-source package every time - through user reviews and unparalleled insights about package popularity, reliability, activity and more.
I started Openbase out of my own frustration: there are 1.3 million JavaScript packages out there, and I found myself spending an increasing amount of time researching and evaluating packages every time I wanted to accomplish a task - implementing an autocomplete, showing a tooltip, or sending an HTTP request.
We’ve built Openbase so it can help you choose the right package with:
⭐ Reviews - any developer can rate and review packages based on their experience, and we’ve even thrown in some badges (e.g. Great Documentation, Performant, etc.) Check it out: https://openbase.com/js/react
📊 Insights - we offer useful insights to help you compare packages, such as star count over time, commit frequency, time between versions, average time to resolve issues and PRs, percent of commits by the community, as well as information about dependencies, contributors and more. See here: https://openbase.com/js/webpack
📂 Categories - we’ve organized packages into categories, so you can visit a category page like React Autocomplete Libraries or Node HTTP Request Libraries to discover and compare packages within that category. e.g. https://openbase.com/categories/...
We’d love to hear your feedback about Openbase, and in particular how we can improve the reviews feature.
We are here to answer your questions!

It was about time for OSS ecosystem to have an impartial entity such as OpenBase to provide "software rating" services. You may end up becoming the google of OSS if you manage to grow your platform to cover a larger portion of OSS' language spectrum. Great job!
@rodny_molina Thanks Rodny!
The Google of OSS? Where do we sign up? ;)
But seriously, we're super happy to help developers choose the right open-source packages for their needs.
While we have started with JavaScript, we are planning on expanding to other ecosystems (think Python, Java, Go, etc.)
I like the direction of this. Please check https://www.npmtrends.com/ for some "inspiration", especially the way they allow to easily compare related packages.
@slavivanov Thank you! Actually we do have some compare features planned that will be very helpful in choosing between several packages that will be coming soon!

The product itself is not much use to me, but I am giving you a big 10/10 for design. The look of the site and how you lay it out is absolutely incredible. Well done on the design.
This looks great and may be able to fill the gap left after GitHub outcompeted SourceForge. For all its greatness, GitHub hasn't done much in terms of discoverability.
@ehn Agreed. I think there isn't a good solution today for package discovery, selection or comparison.

Started coding in a very long time working on a project with reactjs, nodejs & express w/ packages set up already. While reviewing all the packages in current project I was struggling on the variety for each category and tried to make sense of why a certain package was chosen over others by former devs ...then I see this released just a few days ago. I now know that future package selection will be a lot easier. Thanks!
