This was too big of a personal painpoint for me not to try out. I love the idea and can see this Pros: - Useful tutorial videos - Outlines problem spots like decay and gingivitis - Funny experience taking photos of your own teeth Cons: - False positives (hopefully...?) - Login system is a pain in the neck. Why do so many apps require me to make new passwords nowadays... I'd pay good money to have my photos professionally reviewed because dentists can give me feedback. Algorithms are essentially black boxes, so it's hard to tell whether I'm getting the right information. Really promising idea-- hope this kicks off!

@areibman thanks for the feedback Alex! We agree on the login system - a redesign is high on the list of our to dos, but right we're working on the UX UI in the results section and then we're building an iOS version. Teledentistry is a good suggestion to validate the MLs findings and something we'll look at in future, but we're going to spend the next while building more automated features so to keep the app free and scalable. Please follow our story!

dentists can’t figure out what’s wrong by looking into dental X-rays, how do you assess dental issues inside your mouth by taking selfies!? But agree that It’s a good idea for detecting gum disease and giving suggestions.

@md5sha1 Hi Roby, thanks for the question. Very happy to try to address any concerns you have, but maybe please review some of my replies above :) Regarding dental x-rays, they're very limited (basically useless) for detecting early dental caries (tooth decay). It's really hard for anyone - dentists, x-rays, image processing - to spot early decay hidden in beneath teeth. We're kicking off our first clinical trial soon (currently delayed due to COVID-19) and our dream is to build a risk assessment score that combines multiple measures (image detection, questionnaire responses, etc.) to provide free dental screening and education to anyone who wants it. Pearlii is still in its infancy, but we've already helped hundreds of people receive their first dental screen in years.

Photo gets blur everytime. I tired more than 20 times. Why can't we use front camera? Also the flash should only appear after taping on the screen. It only affects the eyes.

This is an amazing app! Being a dentist, I know how people avoid coming to the dentist as much as possible and as a last resort (mostly due to pain). For treatment, it gives limited options to the dentist to treat them in turn causing more avoidance in the future. With this app, this cycle can be broken! Anyone can get dental check-ups done at regular intervals from anywhere! This way we are more aware of our oral health and makes it less daunting to visit the dentist! Looking forward to its bright future! :)
