Perplexity has become my primary OS for information. I use it for hours every day, and it has almost entirely replaced other LLMs for me. It’s a true all-in-one powerhouse: from quick daily chores to deep technical research and multi-page project planning.

The UI is a masterclass in "clean focus" I love how it feels both on desktop and mobile. Features like sharing conversation links, seamless voice interaction, and the ability to switch between all top models in one place make it indispensable for my workflow. Even the image generation and file/photo analysis are surprisingly robust. It’s rare to find a tool that handles everything from shopping links to complex document summaries so gracefully.

What needs improvement

As a heavy user, I've noticed a few pain points. First, the recent change in how the tool handles full dialogue history seems to have slightly degraded the quality of responses in long threads. Second, when a conversation gets too long, I wish it would automatically summarize or carry the context over instead of just suggesting a new start. Lastly, I've seen some older Spaces stop working properly, which is a shame since they are great for organization. Fixing long-thread context management would make this tool perfect.

vs Alternatives

I chose Perplexity because I need an aggregator of intelligence, not just a chatbot. While ChatGPT and Claude are great, Perplexity gives me the best of all worlds in one interface. The transparency of citations is critical for my research, and the Deep Research mode performs better than any manual search I could do. I also love the direction the team is taking with products like the Comet browser (worthy tool!).

Perplexity become my starting page for Internet with its fast, sourced, and analytical responses. Best tool for prompt research - what is more important is growing accuracy, you have to double check the answers less and less.

What needs improvement

Almost entirely replaced normal web search. It's excellent for deep research on all sorts of topics.

At the moment, this is my favourite AI tool. As someone who works at an AI company, I've learned to see through a lot of the empty hype behind many so-called AI tools. Perplexity isn't one of them. With its ability to provide sources to its answer, this has been steadily replacing Google as my main method of information search. Since it's AI, you can ask pretty open-ended questions and get decent answers. I've only seen it hallucinate a few times, and even then, it's on you to double-check the veracity of its answers with the sources it provides. It's a perfect tool in my eyes and it's only going to get better.

Perplexity seems to be making strides in this area, but there's still work to be done to ensure that the AI's responses are grounded in verifiable facts and not just probabilistic outputs. While Perplexity may not have all the answers, it's a promising step towards a more interactive and intelligent search experience. Been using it since early April 2023. Incredibly fast, and finding it indispensable for finding and summarizing answers (with sources) to questions requiring "current" knowledge. The sources provide not only some credibility, but offer jumping off points for further drilldowns. I still pay for ChatGPT Plus, as the uses cases are quite different: ChatGPT is better at answering more general knowledge-based questions; it is extensively knowledgeable with training data through 2021, and possesses incredible reasoning abilities. Perplexity is more of a "search engine on steroids" (or an "answer engine" as they put it), so more adept at getting current, up-to-date information with top sources it retrieves from the web real-time. It's what Google aspires to eventually, and Bing AI tries to do but is quite inferior in terms of speed, quality of responses, response length, and a host of other aspects... which I find utterly ironic given the relative size of the two companies (not to mention MS' direct investment and partnership with OpenAI). Hats off to Perplexity. I hope they continue to grow and expand.

A wonderful platform. A complete AI Assistant that can completely substitute the "old" search engine. I appreciated very much the power of different projects that can be customized each with different prompt directives, so that the vacation/holiday project can be customized to answer like a travel agent or a local tourist guide; then the Financial project can be customized with answers given by a financial broker and expert and so on. And this approach is potentially disruptive.
