Postman replaced a graveyard of ad-hoc curl commands and scratch files for me. Turning a merchant's API surface into a saved collection made endpoint probing repeatable and shareable across the team instead of living in one person's terminal history. The feature I lean on daily is environments + variables: defining base_url / token per environment and replaying the exact same request chain against dev to qa to uat to prod without editing a single request. That's the difference between "does this endpoint work server-side" being a 5-second check vs a rebuild. Collections doubling as living API docs is the quiet second win.

The desktop app has gotten heavy: slow cold starts, and more features that used to be local now nudge you toward account sign-in / cloud sync. The pre-request and test scripting sandbox also feels clunky next to just writing the check in code. It's still the tool I open first, but it's earned some bloat, and a lighter, more offline-friendly mode would go a long way.

vs Alternatives

I looked at Insomnia and lighter clients like Thunder Client, plus just staying on curl/httpie scripts. Insomnia is cleaner and lighter, and for a single quick request I still reach for curl. What kept me on Postman was the team layer: shared collections + environments everyone hits the same way, and the collection runner for quick regression passes. The alternatives win on weight; Postman wins on collaboration and having one canonical place the whole team's requests live.
