I’ve used Product Hunt for years and always believed it was a place where real community support mattered. But our recent launch made me question whether the platform still reflects genuine engagement.

We brought more than 4,000 real users, received over 150 thoughtful comments, and added hundreds of new followers. Yet only a small fraction of that showed up in the final score. Many of our users told us their comments or reviews never appeared publicly, even though they could see their posts when logged in. That was discouraging for people who took the time to register and give real feedback.

It increasingly feels like Product Hunt heavily weights long-time PH accounts while discounting thousands of real supporters who join for the first time. The result is that a smaller group of insiders can outweigh a much larger external community. That doesn’t feel like discovery anymore.

Support responses were generic and didn’t explain what actually happened. I even tried raising this in the forum, but the post never passed review despite being factual and non-abusive.

I still believe Product Hunt could be an important platform for makers, but it needs far more transparency about how votes, comments, and trust weighting work. Real users shouldn’t feel invisible. And founders shouldn’t leave launch day feeling confused about why genuine engagement doesn’t count.

Right now, it’s hard to tell whether Product Hunt is still serving makers — or slowly drifting away from what made it valuable.

I was asked to write a review on a product I use on Product Hunt, so I wrote out a review giving my experience on the app, asking for a feature, and then saying why I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Then I tried posting, but product hunt said I need to log in first, okay fine, so I logged in, and guess what, it just brought me to the homepage of product hunt and the review that I had just written was nowhere to be found. So now that app is out of a review and product hunt itself has gained one. Great UX. Good job product hunt team. I can see you really thought hard about that. 👍🏼 Edit: So it turns out that if you go to the product you were writing the review for, and then click on the button to write a review "again", it'll populate what you had just written. I assume that is time based or something to do with cookies? 🤷‍♂️ Still not a great UX as if I hadn't gone to rewrite the review I wouldn't have found this out.

The site is pretty good. Launching a product is smooth. But there are so many issues with the UI of the site: * The Launch tips popup is too high to fit the laptop screen * The page is too wide on the large monitor and gets a horizontal scroll bar * The mobile version shows data about the products not visible on desktop (like "product platform") * In the mobile version there is no way of reaching a product discussion, even as an admin of the product (!) * etc, etc. Being a page of this size, having a UX this weak is not great. With so many UX/UI people in the community it should have been easy to test and fix things like this.

Product Hunt gives you a strong day-one spike and fast feedback. It’s weaker for APAC/B2B discovery and still ranks mostly on upvotes vs intent. Compared to others: Peerlist is smaller but warmer for B2B, Hacker News is spiky yet deep, LinkedIn yields the most qualified leads. Bottom line: great spark—not your pipeline.

Do I really need to share my thoughts about the best community for the new products...? I really love Product Hunt and I use it to get up to date with the new tools about new knowledge, technology, frameworks, workflows or tools. I think they are doing a great job with the new features in the last few months. I think many users use Product Hunt just to take advantage and get upvotes and nothing else and Product Hunt is trying to really make sure the community engage and helps to build great products and not just get upvotes or get clicks.
