Hi Product Hunt! 👋
I'm Yujiro, a PM in Tokyo who builds indie apps on the side.
Santoka Alarm started from a simple frustration: every alarm sound is designed to stress you into waking up. I wondered — what if the first thing you heard each day was a poem instead?
Taneda Santoka was a wandering monk-poet who wrote 701 free-verse haiku about grass, water, and walking alone. His words are short enough to catch half-asleep, and deep enough to stay with you all day.
Fun fact from analyzing all 701 poems: "grass" appears in 52 of them — more than any other word. And he mentions "water" more often than "sake," despite his reputation as a drinker.
Technical notes: built with SwiftUI + AlarmKit (so it fires reliably even in silent mode), voices generated with ElevenLabs.
It's a one-time purchase — no subscription. I'd love to hear: what's the first sound you'd *want* to hear in the morning?

love this idea honestly, haiku mornings sound way better than my usual screech. one thing i'd suggest is letting users pick a favorite poet or even upload their own short poem to be read occasionally, kind of like a custom haiku slot for when santoka's mood isn't quite right for the day.

Love the Santoka idea, super charming way to start the day. One suggestion: let users pick a theme like rain, autumn, or dawn, and the haiku selection filters to match, so the poem feels tied to the season or my mood instead of being random.

Woke up to a quiet voice reading about water and grass, and somehow it made my morning feel less rushed. Love that it actually fires in silent mode too.

The choice to pair Santoka's wandering haiku with a real alarm that works in silent mode is really thoughtful, his quiet imagery about grass and water feels like a gentle hand on your shoulder instead of a blaring siren.

waking up to a quiet haiku about grass and water actually felt really nice, way better than the usual jolt. the narration sounds calm and human, not robotic.
