How are you handling copyright? I mean, NFTs are not the actual image and they and smart contracts do not replace nor meet copyright protection, and any business would require copyright protection for any logo work related to their company and/or brand.
@angles Great question. This collection was primarily created as an experiment to demonstrate how the technology could help generate creative design concepts. I'm not a trademark attorney (though I know a good one), but if someone purchased one of the logos and wanted to trademark it for their business, they would still need to go through the normal trademark application process to fully protect it.

@clayostrom1 Okay but... then I could just use DALL-E to generate something until I find something I like, then copyright the image. And I'd own the image. What does an NFT, where I don't own the image, bring?
@angles Well, the purpose behind our project was to see what AI might generate without a person guiding the output. Exploring the future potential of what it might be like one day if AI creates entire businesses on its own. It's very much an experiment around tech and branding specifically. If someone wants to create a logo through other AI tools where they guide the output like you would a designer that's great, too. It's just not what our specific project set out to explore. So, our collection represents this specific idea and approach and the NFTs represent owning a piece of that concept. Also this was just our first experiment. We may explore more direct commercial applications of the technology that don't utilize NFTs at all. Hope that answers your question.
Thanks so much for the hunt @lee_fuhr ! this was a project we started 6 months ago with the question: "What if a machine created its own brand?"
Working with our partner, Eleviant Tech, we trained an AI / machine learning model on thousands of real world brand logos and then like yousaid, turned it loose to see what it would create on its own.
It's been a really fun experiment to explore this blend of technology and creativity.
It was also fun to pair the logos with AI-generated taglines for each industry. They walk a fine line of feeling almost real, but also weird and kind of funny.
A few favorites of mine:
Energy: "Build a solar system"
Human Resources: "Buckle up for the right talent"
Utilities: "We turn you on"
Retail: "We're almost out of drawers over here"
IT: "Shh, I'm with IT"
Defense: "Top secret" (pretty much on the 👃)
Would love to see what ideas it sparks for people across tech, branding, marketing, and business. 😄
This is such an evocative confluence of trendy tech. Brand strategy and research agency, Map & Fire, and digital transformation firm Eleviant trained and set AI loose to create a visual brand identity and tagline for an initial set of industries, and the results really tickle the brain.
And then as the icing on the cake, they're listing these identities for sale as NFTs. 🤯
As a designer, I'm a little conflicted about all of this, but mostly I see it as superb inspiration for meaty brains to run with. In the future, well, we'll all plug into the matrix, I suppose.
