We're trying to fix a centuries old problem: homes, residential buildings, houses are still being built with sticks (timber framing) and steel frames which have to be filled with linings and vapor barriers. In an era where everything can be manufactured, people are using solid or hollow brick, one by one! All of these methods are really bad, because assembly happens mostly under the sun and the rain, in winter or summer, and the process is stretched forever.
We believe that what is done in 12 months can be done, with a much better quality and thermal capacity to repel the heat and the cold, in a third of the time. Since time is money, the cost can be somewhere near half.
But in order to change this, we have had to align off site manufacturing of composite panels (steel plus EPS, all cooked together in a press) with the supply chain and logistics to assemble homes. For that we use other available technologies, like Cloud computing to hold Building Information Modeling servers, centralized planning and design repositories, desktop PCs, phones, tablets that all connect to a central source of data with the tools to manage each project individually and collectively at the same time.
One would say: but isn't this the way everybody does it? And the answer is "no, because architects are not usually exposed to much more technology other than CAD programs". Most of their logistics is handled through offline, disconnected spreadsheets and the phone. Same goes for builders and construction companies: the whole workflow is very individualistic and siloed.
We think that by mixing new ways of building walls with new ways of managing projects, leveraging modern IoT and 4G & 5G communications, we can achieve tremendous economies of time, resources, and scale. And that can translate into many more houses, for everyone around the globe.
