Building systems from Chaos

About

Building brands & businesses, the capital-efficient way. After years between dealing with dozens of clients, I've learned that most companies burn through capital trying to solve the same problems: customer acquisition, market positioning, and scalable growth. The irony? The solutions already exist. They're just trapped in expensive consultants, fragmented tools, and 200-page strategy decks that never get implemented.

That single line of prompt that prevented my AI from deleting functional code

I've been working on my habit tracker project, Streakpad, using Cursor for about six weeks. The most expensive mistake I made did not come from a bug. It came from asking the model to "clean up" a file and then watching it silently delete a date parsing function that three screens relied on.

Since then, I've been adding one line to each prompt: list what you will change and what you will not change, and then wait. It takes maybe ten seconds. It has saved me at least four rollbacks, and I now read the "will not change" list more carefully than the code itself.

How do you review AI-written plugin or theme code?

A lot of WordPress code written with AI works on the first try, but WordPress adds its own traps: missing nonce and capability checks, unescaped output, and queries that are slow on big sites.

When AI hands you a plugin or theme snippet, what is your review routine before it touches a client site? Do you use a linter like PHPCS with the WordPress standards, a staging site, a second AI pass, or just read it line by line?

Does AI change how you price small client fixes?

I do WordPress and WooCommerce fixes for clients. A bug that used to take an hour to find can now be located in ten minutes with AI help, but the careful part (testing on staging, checking nothing else broke) still takes the same time.

So what do I charge for? The minutes it took, or the risk and the result the client gets?
