Is usage-based pricing becoming the norm for AI tools?

Hey everyone,

I've built my product around traditional SaaS pricing (monthly tiers), but I m starting to wonder if that model is getting outdated, especially with more AI-powered and compute-heavy tools entering the market.
That shift requires real architectural changes, instrumentation, metering, billing logic, and UI changes, not just pricing tweaks. It s something I m starting to seriously think about for my own product.

In particular, AI usage has real COGs (every prompt costs money), and I m seeing more platforms experimenting with usage-based models, or hybrids like SaaS base + usage + overage.

For those of you building AI or compute-intensive tools:

Does the world need software that recognizes AI in videos?

As you may know, a large amount of video content today is generated using artificial intelligence with tools like Sora, Veo, Kling, and others.

The quality of this kind of video is constantly improving and has already reached a very respectable level. At the same time, it is extremely inexpensive compared to traditional video production with actors, camera crews, and everything that comes with it. I m confident that in a year or two, about 95% of the video published on the internet will be synthetic fully generated by AI. It feels like the world is heading toward a problem of widespread distrust in video content. We used to say that seeing is believing, but it seems that this rule no longer applies.

Can a Product Manager ship a real website end-to-end today without handoffs?

This was a deliberate experiment inspired by my CTO. I wanted to test a simple question:
Can a Product Manager ship a real website end-to-end today without handoffs?

Here s the stack:

  • @Figma structure, hierarchy, & visual components

  • @Adobe Illustrator brand consistency & visual components

  • @ChatGPT by OpenAI positioning, copy angles, objections

  • @Lovable iterate layouts before committing

  • @Cursor turn ideas into real UI fast

Any advice on how to make the most of PH?

Have been a ghost member for a while. But I want to be more active on PH and offer my help any way I can. Got any ideas or advice on how to make the most of PH for me?

Hey Engineers, how many dashboards do you have open right now? 👀

If you're like most eng teams, you're probably juggling 5-10+ tabs just to get through your day. GitHub for code reviews, Jira or Linear for tickets, PostHog for analytics, Slack for... well, everything else.

The problem? Dashboards are static. Your work isn't.

You don't need another place to check information you need context delivered exactly where and when you need it. When you're in the middle of a conversation about a production issue, you shouldn't have to leave Slack to hunt down error logs. When planning sprint priorities, you shouldn't need to toggle between three tools to see what's blocking your team.

Our eng team was drowning in this chaos. We'd spend more time finding answers than actually building. "What needs attention right now?" became a 20-minute investigation across PRs, tickets, Sentry alerts, analytics dashboards, and meeting notes.

Substack for Startups - Substack distribution to all your go-to-market channels

Recently, I realised that I'm horrible at writing email updates and posting, but actually terrific at putting out @Substack articles. I want to open the Substack distribution workflow to other founders who rely on Substack for their community already. The app polls a Substack feed and uses it to: - Email new articles to an audience list list through @Twilio - Update the website blog with the article (and sitemap) - Create Instagram carousels and image posts for the next week

What's your favorite productivity tool for teams?

Running a team has shown me firsthand how the right tools can make all the difference in collaboration and productivity. While Jira with the Planyway plugin that we re developing is obviously close to my heart (and we use it every day!), I'm genuinely curious about what productivity tools you and your team can't live without. I've created a quick poll to gather your insights:) Beyond just the tools, I'm really interested in the productivity challenges you're facing with your teams. Whether it's coordinating across different time zones, keeping everyone aligned on project goals, or managing the balance between meetings and deep work let's talk about it!
