Do you try new tools on your phone, or only on desktop?

I ve realized I am far more likely to stick with a new tool if I can test it out on my phone first. Whenever a setup requires me to open my laptop, log into a browser, and configure everything from a desk, there is a good chance I will put it off and forget it exists entirely. Mobile testing just fits better into small pockets of free time throughout the day.

The problem is that a lot of products still feel like they were built desktop-first, treating the mobile app as a stripped-down afterthought. When the phone experience feels clunky or limited, I lose interest quickly, even if the tool itself is solid.

Does mobile access change whether you actually end up using a new tool? Where do you normally test things out for the first time?

I spent a whole Sunday trying to replace my paid subscriptions with free alternatives

I decided to spend an entire Sunday finding free or cheaper alternatives to my current app subscriptions, mostly by digging through Product Hunt and old bookmarks. I made a list, set aside the day, and went through my tools one by one.
The task manager was the easiest swap. I found a free one in about ten minutes that does everything I need, plus a few extra features I did not expect. The password manager was much harder. I tried two free options, but both felt too clunky to stick with, so I kept my paid plan. The cloud storage swap was an absolute disaster. I spent two hours migrating files before realizing the free tier had a file size limit that made it useless for my work.
By the end of the day, I had only canceled two out of seven subscriptions, and I was completely exhausted. The main takeaway was learning which tools are actually worth paying for versus which ones I kept simply out of laziness.
Hunting for free alternatives often ends up trading time and frustration just to save a few bucks. Have you ever tried a subscription purge like this? Did you stick with the free tools, or did you end up going right back to what you were paying for?

Podcast playlists you can share with strangers. What would you curate?

Parasocial launched here yesterday as a podcast player. Thank you for the comments and the upvotes. The next major release adds the second social layer, and I would rather shape it with you than announce it as finished.

What is coming:

Public playlists. Any playlist you build in the app can be published as a page anyone can open, follow, and play from, with or without the app.
Curator profiles. A handle, a display name, a short bio, and the playlists you have specifically published as "public". Follow a curator and their new playlists show up in a Curate tab: Following, Curated by You, Discover.
No likes, no comments, no algorithmic feed. Curation is the whole feature: a person with taste pointing at episodes.
