Mod Play

A single Compatible badge looks convenient on a game mod listing, but it rarely explains enough.

Compatibility can depend on the game build, operating system, mod loader, required dependencies, other installed modifications, and even the state of an existing save. Two players may use the same game version and still get different results because their setups are not identical.

Consider a mod reported to work with game version 1.4. After version 1.6 is released, leaving the badge unchanged could imply that someone has tested the newer build. Removing it immediately would also discard useful information about the older version.

A more transparent label might be:

Games that have been updated for many years create an interesting information-design problem. A single latest version page is simple, but it can hide the events, compatibility changes, and features associated with earlier releases.

Shadow Fight 2 is a good example. Its core fighting and RPG systems have remained recognizable, while different releases have introduced seasonal events, raid content, characters, and technical changes. Someone researching the game may want the newest release, but another user may be looking for information about a particular event or an older Android device.

While building an AI-powered interview platform, I initially found myself adding more and more AI features because they seemed useful individually.

Eventually, i had to think much more carefully about which features genuinely improve the user's experience vs which ones simply make the product look more impressive.

For other makers building AI products, how did you decide which AI features to keep, simplify, or remove?
