I built a Mac app that finds duplicate videos other tools miss
Hey PH! 👋 I'm a solo developer, and I've been working on Dup — a macOS app that finds duplicate photos and videos using perceptual hashing. The problem I kept hitting: I had 200GB of media scattered across folders — exported at 4K and 1080p, converted MOV to MP4, shared via AirDrop (which renames files). Every duplicate finder I tried said "no duplicates found." They only match identical files....
Most duplicate finders only catch exact copies. But real duplicates aren't exact — same photo as HEIC and JPG, same video at 4K and 1080p, same file renamed.
