About

Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, I have started businesses on three continents. I went to Japan in 1989, and a few years later, with my wife Mary, founded Metropolis, Japan's leading English lifestyle magazine, publishing 707 weekly issues over 14 years. We also started JapanToday.com, now the world's largest English-language news site about Japan, and the first in the world to have reader discussions under the news stories. Long before "engagement" became a buzzword, we were building communities — encouraging reader participation, open discussion, and transparency at scale. After 18 years in Japan we moved to Florida, where we ran a private-room karaoke business. In 2016 we returned to Scotland and ran a marketing agency.

Survey: 96% of AI Music creators think their songs could be hits

In August 2025, we surveyed over 100 active AI music creators across platforms like Suno, Udio and Songer. One number stood out immediately:

73% said they believe their songs would be hits if they reached the right audience. 23% said their songs might be hits. So in total, 96% of respondents felt they may have created a hit.
But the big problem is discovery. With so much (great) content., How do you find the best?

UPCHART - Discover The World's best AI Music

We built UPCHART around a simple belief: great music should rise because people genuinely love it. We use real listener ratings to create charts that actually mean something. Because great music deserves to be discovered.
