Has anyone here rebuilt something they use daily because the official product has a quirk / bug that annoys you? For example - I use Termius to connect to servers over SSH but on my Ubuntu 26 Desktop, Termius is buggy to the point of being unusable. So - I recreated it using Claude, with one or two improvements. Now I run my version in Docker whenever I need to use it.
Is it normal to get contacted by someone selling upvotes @ $2/vote? From the actual email: "$2/upvote. Growth: $499 250 upvotes, 50 comments, 25 reviews, 10 followers (20% off). " Needless to say, I will never do this but will happily name & shame the sender.
Maker disclosure: same as above I work on StorageZen, a competitor to some of the tools mentioned below. Trying to keep this useful rather than a pitch; take the comparison with that in mind and go verify current pricing/features yourself before deciding anything.
Spent a while researching this properly (for our own comparison content, so bias noted) and the UK self-storage software market has a few real, structural differences worth knowing before you commit to anything not just feature checklists:
- SiteLink/Storable pricing is opaque you get a quote, not a published number. Fine if you have leverage to negotiate, annoying if you just want to compare options quickly.
- Stora has a 50-unit minimum, which rules it out for smaller independent operators outright regardless of how good the product is.
