Solving the parody problem for Twitter
Yesterday was the four month anniversary of Elon Musk taking over as CEO of Twitter after Twitter’s legal team forced him to take the “poison pill” and follow through on his April 2022 offer to purchase the platform at $54.20/share.
Many forecasted a mass migration in the fallout after Musk shipped Twitter Blue, which allowed users to pay for checkmark verification (a move that appears to have inspired Mark Zuckerberg). The decision led to parody accounts and shitposters going viral with false information.
At the time, we saw an influx of launches in the category of alternatives to Twitter.
Others scanned the chaos for opportunities to build in-app solutions, like the makers of Hivemark, a tool to make it easier to spot notable accounts on Twitter.
It works as a browser extension that analyzes Twitter’s social graph and organizes accounts into communities in order to rank each account based on its influence.

The new extension works inside Twitter’s web app and is currently available for Firefox and Chrome, with plans to release a version for Safari soon.
