No lens camera

In a protest expected to last 48 hours, Reddit moderators are taking some subreddits private in a stance against the platform’s plans to charge third-party app developers for access to the site’s data. Guess it’s going to be a dank meme-free Monday. Oh, and did you hear Apple is finally fixing the duck problem? It’s about ducking time!

Cameras are interesting pieces of technology, that combine a battery, a sensor, and a lens. Hit the shutter button, and you capture a moment frozen in time. While the technology has advanced a lot, the concept has stayed more or less true to its core. Until now. 

Paragraphica, at first glance, looks like a run-of-the-mill point-and-shoot, that is, until you notice it doesn’t have a lens. Instead, it uses geo-data and AI to generate a photo of a specific place at a specific time. 

The “camera” has three dials that you can use to manually fine-tune aspects such as focal length, noise seed, and how closely Stable Diffusion should adhere to the scene to produce the photo you want.

Bjørn Karmann, the maker behind Paragraphica has no intention as of yet to mass produce the camera, but he has made a virtual tool that uses the same technology to generate a photo of your location that you can use today.
