PRODUCT HIGHLIGHT

Make real life just a bit more game inspired with this app

After years of anticipation, Rockstar finally dropped a trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 in December of last year, but unsurprisingly, there’s no launch date just yet. If you’re like me, you might be eager to scratch that GTA itch. Well, now you can get a taste of it in real life, and no, I don’t mean by going full Trevor — seriously, don’t.

Built by maker Timur Abdrakhimov, MiniMap Radar turns your Apple Watch into your very own GTA-style mini-map for your real-life adventures. It’s built to bring a bit more fun to your day-to-day life, whether you’re navigating a new city, tracking your fitness, or planning your next outdoor escapade.

Once you load it up, your new map will take on the appearance of an in-game mini-map, complete with nostalgic graphics to boot. You can swap out place icons for more game-inspired ones, import your places of interest from Google Maps, track your fitness, and traverse the city with some nifty navigation features.

Alongside the Watch app, Timur also built a companion iPhone app that uses Augmented Reality to overlay the mini-map and real-time distance tracking onto your phone's camera view so you can go about your day feeling just like Tommy Vercetti (Vice City for any non GTA fans).

According to Timur, this is only version one. They plan to add several features in the near future to make it even more game-like, including social functions like friends lists and even levels and experience points you can earn as you explore.

So, if waiting for the next installment of your favorite game franchise is taking just a bit too long, why not try…
