Our ultra-fast Daily: Three takes on new products. Yesterday’s top ten launches. That’s it.

The $3.5B startup from India
Today’s Daily Digest was crafted by Product Hunt and sponsored by our friends at Freshworks for Startups.

Freshworks launched 10 years ago as a 6 member team in a small office in Chennai, India. Today, the company is worth $3.5B, with 13 offices around the world. They’ve seen scale from both sides with customers of it’s cloud-based suite including Honda, Cisco, Unicef, Hugo Boss, Toshiba, plus over 40K other businesses around the world.

In solidarity with their startup roots, the team at Freshworks recently launched Freshworks for Startups as a way to give back to the startup community.

The Challenge

On any given day a founder might wear a dozen hats, taking on the role of business analyst, marketer, HR personnel, inventory clerk, warehouse manager, product manager, customer service agent, and many more.

With so many conflicting priorities competing for attention, it can be hard to ensure that customers receive the best service without detracting from an already strained budget and timetable.

The Solution

Freshworks is offering Product Hunt subscribers $10K worth of Freshworks credits with Freshworks for Startups. This offer includes all Freshworks product across Sales CRM, Helpdesk, Chat, Caller, Marketing Automation, and Agile Project Management (two scrums up). Plus, it all comes with premium onboarding and mentorship so your team can get all the training they need to put this software to work.

This exclusive offer is only valid Until August 30, 2020.
Twitter wants another chance
The relationship between Twitter and the developer community can be best described as complicated.

Yesterday, Twitter’s Global Lead Developer Advocate, Andy Piper announced a new Twitter API, built on a completely fresh foundation.

Twitter’s new API lets you publish and analyze Tweets, optimize ads, and create better customer experiences. From today, you can use features like access to topic annotations, filtered stream, recent search, and poll data.

This time, Twitter is not only targeting developers but also academics and businesses. The new API includes three access levels: basic (which is free), elevated, and custom.

Back in 2018, Twitter’s infamous move to restrict its API access affected some of the community’s beloved apps like Statusbrew, Crowdfire, Tweetbot, and Twitterrific.

With the launch, Twitter wants to earn your trust back and share its public roadmap and acknowledge the fact that they messed up.

“We know that it takes hard work to reach that level of excellence and that it starts and ends with listening to you, and acting upon your feedback.” Alyssa Reese, Senior Product Designer

The community responds with optimism and excitement.

“Interesting to see the API being expanded. Twitter has had a turbulent history with third-party developers and its API.” – Dwayne Charrington

Why is this good news for makers?

The API megatrend helps makers build better products on top of existing infrastructures, whether by picking a niche and serving it better or creating a new service.

With the recent launches of Apiway, Alchemy, Simple Scraper, Paragon, Magic, Let’s Enhance, Api Spreadsheets, and a lot more we’re seeing how these companies are democratizing access to APIs, appealing to even non-techy makers.

Integrations and interconnectedness between apps bring us more innovation, creating more opportunities for everyone.
A smart camera for nose-pickers
We have reusable rockets while webcams still suck big time.

Yesterday, the NeuralCam team dropped NeuralCam Live, an AI-powered app that turns your iPhone into a smart webcam.

It’s simple to set up. Download the iOS app, install a Mac driver, and you’re good to go.

They built a machine learning engine to make you look better, even in your pajamas.

The Style framework edits video similarly to a professional colorist (think Instagram filters).

With the Enhance framework, well, you can enhance your video.

Finally, with the Recognition framework, you can automatically locate your face and remove everything around it. It can also detect and instantly blur facial touches (looking at you, nose pickers) and nudity (there are other apps for that).

Rapidly developing AI and ML tools will inevitably bring serious innovation to live photography and videography. NeuralCam Live is one of the examples among others (Camo, Around, and mmhmm).

The company is gaining momentum in the growing smart camera space. A year ago, they launched low-light and photo enhancing NeuralCam and NeuralCam Pro.

The growing number of smart camera apps and video tools (Loom, Zoom for Home, Facebook Portal, Remotion, and Krew) can make working from home a lot more interesting.

NeuralCam Live is free to download with and has a premium subscription with better features. It works with Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. Sadly, it doesn’t support FaceTime or Safari browser.
Tweetdeck for Reddit
Reddit just got its own Tweetdeck-style desktop reader.

Yesterday, Charles Yang launched Deck for Reddit, an alternative and fun way to browse your favorite subreddits.

Clark Chambers’ comment sums it up pretty well, “Making Reddit actually usable?? You are going to kill my productivity ; )”

Reddit is a captivating company, ranked the 19th-most-visited website in the world, one of the largest online communities for virtually anything you can imagine (one of our favorites: /r/InternetIsBeautiful).

Needless to say, this is not the first time someone tried to clean up Reddit's messy interface.

The holy grail of human wisdom, aka “the front page of the Internet,” has inspired many businesses and products loved by the Product Hunt community.

There are too many to mention all but here are some of the most impressive ones: The Unim.press, Unreadit, Walnut, Reddit Shell, Reddit List, Top Fitty Memes, Readder, Thredd, Glance, Nano for Reddit (so you read Reddit on your Apple Watch), and more.

It’s worth mentioning that the current Reddit mobile app was highly inspired by Alien Blue, the popular app the company acquired in 2014 and discontinued earlier this year.

Whether you’re frustrated with Reddit web UX and want a much better way for quick browsing or simply upgrade your procrastination toolkit, Deck for Reddit will do.
NEW from WordPress: A tool for remote workers
Automattic, WordPress’s parent company, is a pioneer in remote working since the company started in 2005. Today they have over 1,000 employees (!!!), fully distributed around the world.

Last week the team at WordPress.com launched their internal remote-team collaboration tool, P2, to the public for the first time.

Email, Slack, and Zoom fatigue is real. P2 helps organize files, projects, and conversations all on one screen, meaning teams can collaborate from anywhere, asynchronously. Maker, Jon Burke, refers to P2 as the “life blood” of their globally distributed team.

Here are some initial reactions from the community:

“‘I love work emails’ - said no one ever. P2 all the way!” – Monica V. Ohara

“What I love about P2s is that it gives time and space to think about important topics. I cannot imagine asynchronous work without a tool like this.” – Artur Piszek

“Big upgrade. Communication is going this way. Nice product 👏” – Alex Papageorge

Famously a distributed team, this launch from Automattic (the creators behind WordPress) could be a step forward in realizing Founder’s, Matt Mullenweg, long-held prediction that remote work is the future.

5 years ago Matt talked to the Product Hunt community about his thoughts on this. And more recently he wrote that “Distributed work happened slowly, then all at once” in reference to recent Shelter In Place needs.

You can use P2 across multiple timezones for things like writing company-wide blog posts or acting as a 'virtual water cooler' to help teammates connect around the world. You could even plan a trip with friends and family using P2 - it's not necessarily only useful for our work needs.

Of course, many tools are emerging to help teams navigate remote working. We wrote about a few lesser-known alternatives back in March.

Whether you enjoy the remote life, or are looking forward to getting back to the office, P2 could help reduce reliance on multiple tools either remotely, in the office, or even for family life.

TestFlights are cool again.

Or at least that’s the feeling we and many others are having rn as a new wave of creative consumer apps emerge. It feels like 2013.

We’re increasingly seeing more buzz around TestFlight apps in the wider community, but it’s not always clear how to get an invite, so we decided to build a thing.

Sign up to receive a new unreleased app every Friday by texting (415) 481-3148. If you have an unreleased TestFlight app you'd like to submit, send it here.

Note: As with all early experiments, this launch itself isn't perfect and we recognize many of our friends in the community won't have access on day one. To reduce scope we're limiting this MVP to iOS apps to start with. We're also unable to text outside the US or Canada as our text provider lacks international support for now. We'll expand based on the demand and learnings over the coming weeks. Feedback and ideas are very welcome! :)
10 dating apps you haven’t heard of
In early June we wrote about dating in the age of COVID-19. Love can happen during lockdown, and Makers have been finding creative ways to help relationships blossom regardless of local restrictions.

Since then a few creative products emerged to help you find a date, maintain meaningful relationships, and maybe meet your true love (cue the harps). Here are a few:

Filter Off launched this week as a shelter-in-place-friendly, video speed dating app.

Struck is an astrology-based matchmaking app, connecting compatible people based on astrological synastry. They’re quite literally helping the stars align. 🥁

Karma App creates AI-powered matches by asking series of questions to set up conversations based on shared interests.

Arithmr matches people based on their YouTube viewing history. Those endless hours of cat videos might change your love life.

SKWSH markets itself as the anti-ghosting app. It will take you from match to date in 96 hours to avoid endless back and forth, and even date suggesions based on your interests and location.

Vocol uses voice technology to connect potential dates on WhatsApp. Record a 5 second voice note and Vocol will suggest a date via WhatsApp based on your voice.

Toodls allows you to host in-person or virtual events based on interests. Find new friends or lovers through shared interests by throwing your own event.

woAIni finds your Twitter crush. Submit your username and AI will identify who you're crushing on and how compatible you are.

Datetime helps to keep the conversation flowing with question prompts to use during dates. Think flashcards but for dating.

That Day is aimed at helping to keep relationships healthy by reminding us about the meaningful days and moments to celebrate with little nudges.

Instagram takes on TikTok
Instagram just dropped Reels, its TikTok competitor, live in over 50 countries including in the US.

Last month we wrote about Facebook’s upcoming play for TikTok which has recently dominated the headlines with speculation of a US ban or sell off to Microsoft. Naturally, many creators are nervous which makes now the best time for Reels to launch.

With Reels you can create short videos to share with friends directly on Instagram. Record and edit 15 second multi-clip videos with audio, effects, and new creative tools. Anyone can create a video to share with friends, and for public profiles these will be discoverable in the Explore section within the app.

Unlike some of its previous expansions, Threads and Direct, Instagram decided to bundle Reels into its main app. This means creators don’t need to rebuild a new following to reach their audience and consumers don’t need to try to fit yet another app on their homescreen. We’ve seen Instagram use this strategy before when they introduced Stories – clearly inspired by Snapchat – four years ago.

Are you team Instagram or team TikTok? Can you be both?
A personal CRM for Twitter
Flocknet launched yesterday as a tool to help you better understand your Twitter followers. Use it to sort your people by job, location and keyword. The result: A powerful personal CRM built on top of Twitter.

Maker, Aaron Ng, shared;

“We've heard more and more stories about how Founders are now finding their lead investors on Twitter, how early-stage startups are recruiting a significant number of their hires from their Twitter network, and how Investors are sourcing investments through their followings. People are already using Flocknet to keep track of their Twitter network, hire, find sales leads, friends, and even romantic partners”

Flocknet might look familiar for the astute. A year ago Aaron built Flock as a weekend project, frustrated by Twitter’s lack of tooling to filter followers. Now part of Y Combinator’s latest batch, Aaron’s aim for Flocknet is to build the “ultimate people search engine” starting with Twitter followers.

Early responses from the community:

“No better way to tap into your twitter data; super impressed and looks pretty polished.” – Himank

“Both searcher and provider get more information leveraging twitter (tweets, likes etc) than if they just relied on CV's or application forms.“ – William

“I've been a user for several weeks now. This is by far one of the best tools to interact with Twitter.” – Nick

If your own following is a too small for Flocknet, but you want to utilize Twitter to discover specific people, you can always use Tweeple to search a wider net of folks by their interest or occupation.

For those looking for more traditional personal CRMs check out Uphabit, KeepMyFriends and Dex (also a YC-backed company).

Our networks are bigger than ever before in the Internet age. We have friends and acquaintances scattered across multiple online communities (like Product Hunt!) and social networks. There’s a reason we’re seeing increased demand for something to help manage connections more efficiently. Until Elon and team launch Neuralink, we’ll use apps like Flocknet.
Us vs. the Machines
A couple of weeks ago we wrote about OpenAI’s newest project, GPT-3. We predicted that we’d see some interesting projects emerge as this became more widely available. So far we haven’t been disappointed.

In the last week, VWO launched a competition to pit GPT-3 against human copywriters. The ‘friendly’ competition is set to run this month testing AI generated headlines, button CTA’s, and product copy against human-written versions. The tests will be conducted on VWO or any A/B testing platform, meaning anyone can participate.

In an about turn, rather than pit AI against human writers, student maker Qasim used GPT-3 to help make writers block a thing of the past. Shortly uses GPT-3 to allow writers suffering with block to hit a button and AI will continue where they left off, generating new creative plots and story developments.

Rather than focus on functional copywriting and storytelling, the folks over at Themesberg tested GPT-3’s ability to assist humans in writing code. GPT-3 Tailwind CSS uses GPT-3 to build Tailwind CSS code snippets. Currently still a work in progress, maker Szőgyényi admits the project is far from perfect, but has trained the AI to work with buttons, inputs and lists. The aim is to save humans time and effort building user interfaces.

If this short overview has piqued your GPT-3 curiosity but you don’t yet have access to test out yourself, you can view more projects and demos on GPT Crush.

Are you brave enough to test your copy writing skills against the machines?
