Our ultra-fast Daily: Three takes on new products. Yesterdayโ€™s top ten launches. Thatโ€™s it.

Want to meetup?
Meetups have been an important part of the Product Hunt community since the beginning. To date, community members around the world have hosted more than 500 meetups (!!!) in Ghana, New York, Austin, Tel Aviv, Dubai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Toronto, Amsterdam, and beyoooonnnd.

As much as we love online communities, our strongest friendships (and sometimes future business partnerships) form in person.

So... we're introducing Product Hunt Events to help people connect IRL and meet other Product Hunt community members in your city.
ย

Browse and filter events based on your location (e.g. Paris) and soon interest (e.g. blockchain). Youโ€™ll find a mixture of awesome conferences, evening talks, workshops, and community-led meetups.

You can also promote your own event to the community. Click here. ๐Ÿค—

If you're less of a planner, explore a few of the events coming up and special shout out to a few launch sponsors:ย RepubliCoin, Slush 2018, Web Summit, and Synapse 2018.

See you offline. ๐Ÿ˜Š
Airbnbโ€™s newest competition isโ€ฆ unique
Houses might not look like houses for long.

While the world focuses on IoT home devices like Amazon Echos, an entire new generation of microapartments, container homes, and capusle hotels is here for city-dwellers and wanderlust-filled tourists.

๐Ÿ”ฎ Conker Living Pods look like massive soccer balls. Each contains an entire studio apartment, customizable to your needs. Their exteriors are stunningโ€ฆ but youโ€™ll have to find a bathroom elsewhere. ๐Ÿ’ฉ

๐ŸŒฒ Tired of the city? Hate your phone? Slow Cabins are off-the-grid eco lodges for couples, families, or solo adventurers looking to focus hidden around Belgium. The company is slowly expanding internationally.

๐Ÿค— Sonder is like if Airbnb and a Four Seasons had a baby, offering handpicked homes in cities around the world. Better than risking your trip on an Airbnb. ๐Ÿคญ

๐Ÿ•๏ธ Ditch walls altogether and explore unique campsites around the world in this "Airbnb for camping" with over 300,000 campsites available.

๐ŸšŒ Avoid hotels entirely. For your next weekend vacation, try a Cabin and their luxury overnight sleeper buses. Fall asleep in your city, and wake up in a magical destination for a weekend adventure. Currently travelling between LA and SF, but we're hoping they expand soon.

Talk to celebs with Googleโ€™s new app ๐Ÿคณ
Google is taking on... Oprah? And Reddit, and Twitter? ๐Ÿค”

Their new experimental app โ€“ Cameos โ€“ lets you ask celebrities questions and watch their video responses. It only launched on iOS... despite the fact that Google built the entire Android ecosystem.

Celebrity answers will be included in Google search results so you can see and hear the results of your query from your favorite Kardashian.

It seems like everybody is jumping into Q&A features. Instagram just launched a Questions widget embeddable directly into Stories. Twitch co-founder Justin Kan launched Whale two years ago, which let anybody ask tech influencers for advice over video. TBH, the popular app among Gen Z, was acquired by Facebook just nine months after it launched. And rapper/entrepreneur Chamillionaire even launched an app for video Q&A.

Of course Q&A on the internet isnโ€™t new. You might remember exchanging responses anonymously on Formspring. Some questions were harmless. Others were toxic. Q&A platforms can go viral and fall as quickly as they came.

We'll have to see if Cameos sticks around. Do you have questions for any specific celebs? Share your thoughts in the discussion. ๐Ÿค—
Can't think of a good subject line
Writer's block sucks.

I mean, hmm... nah. Maybe we'll start it out with...

It's impossible to get started writing anything. That irritating, blinking cursor never ceasesd mocking me.

No, mocking isn't the right word... hmm... let's just start over. Rrrrg. ๐Ÿ˜
ย
Writer's block really does suck, but Boston University senior Jules Schenkel is here to help with Typeboost, a writing app that automatically pauses your favorite music if you stop writing.

"In high school, I struggled with essay writing. I built Typeboost to help me overcome my writing anxiety and type up a quick first draft."

Instead of stressing over the perfect sentence, Typeboost lets anyone force their way through a first draft of a blog post, essay, or newsletter. ๐Ÿ˜…

Jules isn't the only maker to tackle writing anxiety. The Most Dangerous Writing App and Flowstate actually delete your words when you pause. Keep writing, or the text fades away and disappears forever.

And then there are apps to help avoid awkwerd grammer typos and silly messtakes. Grammarly, a powerful typo-finder backed with $110M in funding, proofreads all of your writing in your browser. The Hemingway Editor automatically makes your words bold and clear.

Check out the full collection of Dangerous Writing Apps or forward to a friend without judgment. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Firefox's experimental new app ๐ŸฆŠ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Mozilla's Firefox just launched an experimental new app aimed at surfacing the best personalized #content on the Internet.

Most recommendation engines generalize their recommendations based on what's popular in your country or state. Firefox Advance actually tracks which articles you specifically read and actually finish, so it can recommend the best content for you, not the whole world.

Mozilla has already been moving towards content curation: last year, they acquired Pocket, which made it super simple to save and manage a reading list of articles on all of your devices. As part of Mozilla's new Firefox Quantum browser, Pocket also now surfaces "Trending Articles" based on their proprietary dataset in every new tab.

These recommended articles create another revenue source for the free browser: unsurprisingly, Sponsored Articles (aka ads) appeared earlier this summer. While users could turn them off anytime in the settings menu, it's likely only a small percentage will know where to look.

The team behind Firefox is openly taking on Facebook, both with this launch at replacing the FB News Feed and their Mozilla Facebook Container, which limits FB's ability to track your browsing history online.

Privacy has become a major concern for many. Would you use this? Share your thoughts in the discussion. ๐Ÿ“ฐ๐Ÿค—
Alexa, why are you crying?
Nobody is using Alexa to buy stuff. ๐Ÿ˜ข

Turns out, asking a virtual assistant to buy toothpaste wasn't the "killer feature" Amazon and Google expected it to be. Only 2% of the 50 million voice assistant devices sold been used to purchase something. Oops.

But don't throw away your Echo just yet. These tiny voice assistants can do a lot more than reorder toilet paper. We've compiled a list of voice-assistant ready products for your Echo or Google Home:

๐Ÿ’ก "Alexa, turn on the lights." LIFX Bulbs can be controlled with just your voice, or from your smartphone anywhere. Pro tip: schedule your lights to gradually turn on in the morning to get yourself out of bed.

๐Ÿ‘„ "Alexa, start Chompers." This daily podcast from The Tooth Fairy is designed to help kids brush their teeth for the entire two minutes, from the same team behind community favorites StartUp and Reply All.

๐Ÿ‘€ "Alexa, enable Away Mode." This awkward skill plays weird noises when you're away to fend away burglars. Tracks vary from "Couple Breaks Up And Watches TV" to "Man Helps Daugher Assemble Drawer."

๐Ÿ˜‹ "Alexa, enable Gordon Ramsey." Yes, Michelin-star chef Gordon Ramsey is just waiting to hang out with you while you cook. We can't promise he won't roast your cooking skills.

Want to build your own Alexa skill? Storyline can help, with 1300+ upvotes from the community, no coding required.

And if you're feeling left out, Amazon's new Echo Spot is adorable. Of course, it's on Amazon Prime. ๐Ÿ“ฆ
This crypto company just went public ๐Ÿ’ฐ
When there's a gold rush, start selling shovels. ๐Ÿค‘

As cryptocurrencies exploded last year, multi-million dollar mining farms plugged in around the world to confirm transactions for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Zcash, Dogecoin, and hundreds of other token networks.

In exchange for confirming transactions, miners get paid big bucks. Every confirmed block of Bitcoin transactions pays out 12.5BTC, or ~$87k every ten minutes. Bitmain, a leading mining group, is reported to have made $3-4B... just last year. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Meet the newest shovel salesman: Argo Mining, which just went public in London and raised ยฃ25M. Pick your preferred coin, choose a mining contract, and the coins will start flowing into your wallet. Over 50,000 are on Argo's waiting list for their Canadian-based rigs.

Cryptocurrency mining contracts have excited since bitcoin mining took off years ago, but it's not typical to see blockchain companies go public. We'll have to wait and see if Argo Mining can find a loyal group of miners.

Want to try mining yourself? This nifty browser extension lets you donate your processing power to charities like The Hispanic Foundation, or to help people get out of jail.

And if all of this is confusing, here's a beautiful visual demonstration of the technology behind Bitcoin, Ethereum, and more. โ›“๏ธ๐Ÿ“ฆ
This $1B company suddenly shut down ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Musical.ly is shutting down.

They were acquired last year by Chinese social-giant Bytedance, who owns and operates international competitor Tik Tok for a reported $1B.

Tik-tok was the #1 most downloaded app globally in the first quarter of 2018. The karaoke-esque 15 second video-sharing app was downloaded over 45,000,000 times in the first three months of 2018. That's more downloads than Snapchat, Spotify, and Gmail...combined.ย ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
ย
Tik Tok originally launched as a lip-syncing app named Douyin, complete with Snapchat-like video effects and a a built in social network. It reminds us of when we spent all weekend playing with Mac Photo Booth effects.
ย

All of Musical.ly's 100M users will be transitioned over to Tik Tok in an attempt to bring their entire userbase under one roof. ๐Ÿ˜ข

We're sad to see Musical.ly go, but this wasn't a huge surprise. Bytedance killed Musical.ly's livestreaming app Live.ly in early June, despite its massive popularity among 26M+ users.

Sunrise, Mailbox, and now Musical.ly โ€“ all of our favorite apps eventually shut down. Come pay your respects at the Startup Graveyard. โšฐ๏ธ๐Ÿฅ€
Our new experimental app... now on Web ๐Ÿฅค
TL;DR: Today, we're bringing Sip to Web. Get daily tappable tech news and stories directly on in your browser, on iOS, or Android. ๐Ÿ“ฐ

Earlier this year, we launched Sip: a simple app that curates the most interesting and important tech news of the day, from major product announcements to stories about your favorite makers.

The community loved it: Sip stories have been viewed over 1M times in the last three months, covering everything from an esports team raising $37M from Steph Curry to an e-commerce startup raising $240M.
ย

We launched Sip after discovering an overwhelming majority of our community use Product Hunt to stay up-to-date on what's happening in tech and follow trends in this rapidly changing industry.

Instead of scrolling through Twitter all day, use Sip on your phone or computer to quickly bring yourself up to date with everything tech. Share your hot take in the (new!) comments section with the rest of the Product Hunt community.

Check out Sip for Web and share your thoughts. Happy sipping. ๐Ÿ˜„
Game of Thrones star launched an app โš”๏ธ
Today we have a special guest: Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark on Game of Thrones, is here to tell you about Daisie, the new app that she and her co-founder Dom Santry are launching today. ๐Ÿ˜ป

Hello Product Hunt! It's Maisie. Dom and I had a wonderful time in San Francisco, and heard that this is the place to be on launch day!

Success in the creative industries is wholly dependent on luck and โ€˜insโ€™.ย When I was 12, I auditioned for every stage school in London and didnโ€™t get in. Had I not got Game of Thrones, that probably would have been the end of it for me, so Iโ€™ve always pictured that person who these opportunities were not around for.

At Daisie, we are building a platform for creators to showcase their original work, collaborate, and make meaningful connections. You have a profile, and you have a timeline, but the way your profile grows is by the chains that you make. To make a chain with someone, you have to work together. Itโ€™s a two way connection that encourages discovery and collaboration.

Our ultimate goal is to give the power back to the creator. Opportunity comes by working together, and when people's work speaks for itself โ€“ without being validated by a follower count or a casting director.

We're a team of six (come work with us!).ย We'd love to hear your feedback and suggestions, and I'll be around on Product Hunt today answering questions, ask me anythingย (except for the Game of Thrones ending).

โ€“ Maise ๐Ÿ’›
