Our ultra-fast Daily: Three takes on new products. Yesterday’s top ten launches. That’s it.
Medium’s latest update 👏👏👏
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Today, we are ending the upvote[1]. That’s right, the archaic binary upvote system is being replaced with claps, the latest technology to demonstrate love on the internet.
Also starting today, New Medium. Check it out. 👏👏👏
Lots of you have already seen the recent branding updates – and the claps – but its more than a superficial change. Medium explains what they’re all about:
“The more claps you give a locked post, the more share of your membership fee that author will get.”
That’s right, Medium created an emoji-based economy for content creators to earn money. The more claps you give, the more money writers earn from Medium’s newish subscription membership.
P.S. If you are not interested in making money from your work, nothing changes. Medium remains free and open.
[1] Just kidding. Upvotes are staying. Go exercise your freedom to ⬆️.

How to watch the solar eclipse today 🌔🐱
Today is a very special day. It is Monday, the beginning of the work week. It's also the first time a total solar eclipse will be visible from the North American continent since the invention of the iPhone, fidget spinner, and internet. How to watch:
The safest most informative way of watching the spectacle is through the Exploratorium's Total Solar Eclipse app, including expert commentary and live HD video.
If you insist on "experiencing" the rare spectacle with people, this site will show you all the eclipse viewing events in your area.
The Totality app will tell you when, where, and what you’ll see.
If you missed it, sign up to get notified when this beautiful Eclipse product will be available (totally unrelated to astronomy).
Safety Warning: Do not let the Sun look directly into your cat during the solar eclipse.

Bored Elon Musk Launches Seed Fund 🌱💰
A message from serial inventor Bored Elon Musk:
Every single day, I receive emails from people asking for help with their inventions and products. I typically ignore these requests because I'm very busy building extremely unnecessary technologies that temporarily alleviate my boredom. But I've come to realize that I'm just one human and I can only scale my time and knowledge so much. It's time to give back to the universe.
With that in mind, I'm mildly excited to share that I'm opening up my wallet and investing in all of you through the Bored Elon Seed Fund.
I'm calling for the world's greatest and worst product builders to pitch me directly on Twitter. One week from today, I will select the best three submissions and their respective creators to receive an early stage investment of five million seedlings of Kentucky Bluegrass in exchange for 0% of their company.
Should your invention be selected, not only will you receive enough resources to cover roughly 325 square meters of dirt, but you'll be joining a community.
Let's make the universe a better place. Together.
-------
Tips: Get creative! Go through Bored Elon's timeline for inspiration. Make sure to link to the newsletter and include #PitchBoredElon in your tweet.
Example Pitch: "Coffee cup lids that change color when you've ACTUALLY sealed them." 💡

VIP Access to Superhuman (from Rapportive team) 📧⚡️
The team behind Rapportive has been quietly working on a new email app that’s used by the likes of Justin Kan, Naval Ravikant, and Paul Buchheit (who created Gmail).
Superhuman is blazingly fast (there’s a keyboard shortcut for everything) and includes features like undo send (thank goodness!), follow-up reminders (#lifehack), scheduled messages (super useful for event reminders), and read statuses (so you can spy on people 🙊). It also brings full contact profiles into your inbox and uses AI to highlight your most important emails first.
Rapportive kickstarted the Gmail extension ecosystem, and in 2012, was acquired by LinkedIn. The band’s back together now, with the goal to create the best email client of all time. The Product Hunt community is getting a first look, sign up here.

"Yelp for VCs" 👀
"Really important and necessary service for a startup world."
"I love that you're bringing transparency to a process that desperately needs it!"
"Great timing for this product."
"Yelp for VCs."
These are some of the community's thoughts on Know Your VC.
What is it? A platform where founders anonymously (or not) review investors. 1st reaction: highly needed. 2nd reaction: uh-oh! The team of five is taking measures to maintain credibility by personally vetting contributors.
While controversial, Know Your VC’s mission is to bring transparency to the startup world. Get to know investors from Benchmark, General Catalyst, Greylock, and other Silicon Valley firms. And founders, if you have something to share, write your own review.

Watch SpaceX launch a rocket into space 🚀✨
Today we're at NASA for the SpaceX launch! Follow along on Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat (p.s. Snap is alive) for a behind the scenes look leading up to the launch. We'll be streaming the big spectacle ~2 feet away from the 🚀 on Facebook Live around 9:30am PT.
Now lets talk about the key breakthrough SpaceX is working on.
There is nothing routine about launching rockets into space. It’s even harder to bring them back safely. SpaceX has push the boundaries of what we thought was possible.
"Going to Mars" may be the ultimate goal, but the fundamental breakthrough SpaceX is working on is taking place right before our eyes. With each launch, SpaceX is slowly pushing the limit to what is possible. Remember, it was only 4 years ago when the company was uploading YouTube videos titled "Grasshopper vs. Cows". 🐄
“If one can figure out how to effectively reuse rockets just like airplanes, the cost of access to space will be reduced by as much as a factor of a hundred. A fully reusable vehicle has never been done before. That really is the fundamental breakthrough needed to revolutionize access to space.” – Elon Musk
In June, SpaceX completed two Falcon 9 landings in 48 hours. We're finally on a path to seeing full reusability in the rocket business, the key to going to Mars and everything else.
Practice! You can test your skills landing Elon's rocket as you wait for the actual launch to start. 😬💥

You made it to Friday. Congrats! Today we'll be talking about a very serious topic: apps to launch when you're bored. Instead of highlighting the usual candidates like Twitter, Facebook, Parking, and Instasnap we'd like to share a few lesser known procrastination apps.
