Altis - Beautiful, real-time satellite tracking

I've been seeing a lot of these "situation intelligence" products pop up lately, but TBH, they all look a bit vibe coded... So I wanted to show what a little care and craft could do. 14k + active satellites beautifully (and performant) rendered using Mapbox, a custom WebGL engine and shaders. Nothing much more to do than explore and wonder a bit.

I love to tinker, and I love a challenge. The great thing about digital is I firmly believe where there is a will, there is a way. So when I started looking into satellite tracking, I wasn't very happy with the limitation of using symbols in Mapbox (the only way to really show altitude data...) So being stubborn and curious, I decided it must be possible and iwht the help of Claude in a couple of days I ended up with Altis. I hope you enjoy it, and are inspired to try cool new things yourselves.
