Hey Everyone!
We’ve been on a quest to figure out how we could build an app to give us reliably awesome days. We quickly realized that the key to a great day was a great morning.
Amazing - so if we could just nail our mornings, the rest of the day would be excellent too? Yes, but there’s a catch.
While it was easy to dream up a perfect morning routine, actually doing it often didn’t go as planned when the morning rolled around. We found ourselves crawling out of bed with low motivation levels, and getting off to a great start was a struggle.
We wondered if mornings would be easier if we built an app that would literally tell us what to do, out loud, every single step of the way. TLDR; it worked. All we need to do is press play, and our customized morning coach is leading us through the routine we previously committed to.
Autopilot has already helped us a lot, but it’s very much a work in progress. There’s nothing we’d value more than your feedback on how we can make this tool helpful in your life.
Thank you so much for checking out Autopilot!
Evan
P.S. A note on privacy, data-ownership, and advertising.
Our ethos as a team is to give you total control and ownership over any data you produce while using our products. Autopilot V1 is a completely offline experience. There are no user accounts and all data you generate exists only on your phone’s local storage. We do have Google Analytics in place to understand the metrics of how people are using the app.
We believe deeply in attention ownership and don’t think advertisers ought to be able to buy a slice of your precious attention without your consent. Therefore, our product is currently free and ad-free, but we are a business and will seek non-ad solutions to monetization in the future, possibly via subscription or paid premium features.
@the_esc Guys, you have built something great! There are not many health startups these days. I love the Autopilot morning routines and meditation approach. Branding is awesome also - faded-out retro colors are nice. I think you should add the WIM HOFF breathing technique and cold showers options for advanced users.
P.s. Imao, you should work on the Autopilot logo, it is really generic and falls behind the main identity great style.
@the_esc@stanui Adding Wim Hoff style breathing seems like a great idea! We could probably use guidance in this area, we've felt wary of infringing other people's IP when it comes to creating flows. I'd flow to partner with people like Wim Hoff and get their official seal of approval.
Thanks for the note about our logo! Let us know if you know any great designers, we definitely don't have design backgrounds, hah.
@the_esc@zencephalon You can IMPROVE logo today following 3 SIMPLE TIPS:
- Use more bright colors in the logo. Don't use basic colors like white and black, they are dull (except you have an ultra-concept sign design)
- If Using the first letter of your brand name "A", add some unique graphic trait to it, connecting with your app concept idea. So users can remember the sign and associate your app with the logo instantly.
- Better divide brand name for beater reading, e.g. AutoPilot except for Autopilot
@the_esc@gmail@stanui As a cofounder yourself I imagine you've got your hands quite full! Thank you for taking the time to recommend someone <3 I sent Ilnur an email mentioning that you referred me. :)
@the_esc@stanui Wow, thank you for taking the time to write that out for us. That seems super helpful, definitely agree that we could make the logo more memorable.
@zencephalon@the_esc Nice! Also noticed your company named.. Black Lotus Inc.. y'all are MTG nerds? If so, down to play some Arena with you guys! Looking forward to using your app!
@zencephalon also, I'm a PMM at Taplytics - happy to get you guys set up on a Free Plan with Taplytics (A/B Testing, Feature Flags, Push Notifications, Customer Journey Automations) if you're up for it!
@zencephalon One thing I noticed is how jarring the AI voices are. Maybe voice overs from the founders would be a nice touch imo or actual human voices in the future.
@will_lam Hahaha, yeah U caught us with our hands full of Magic cards. You can find me at zencephalon#63100 on Arena. That functionality definitely sounds helpful, you can also email me at matt@blacklotus.ooo to send me details on Taplytics!
@will_lam For sure, thanks for the feedback in this area. We've got human voice over in several of the Discover flows, but we really want to make sure people can customize flows so we'll have to fall back to TTS for that for now. I've got plans to use higher quality voices in the future (e.g. Google Wavenet) and we could also allow people to record themselves. Do you thoughts on which direction to take first?
@zencephalon sent you an email and friend request on Arena!

i've recently have been looking for something just like this (setting up mornings in my handwritten journal hasn't really been cutting it), so im really glad i stumbled upon this. excited to try it out, especially with the crazy days here in taipei!

I am really excited about Autopilot, guys.
Went through the default flows. It's solving what I tried to do with Notion in a much more convienent way.
I am off creating custom flows. I'm curious how the app will go.
Cheers and good luck!
Edit: You might want to look into the "Create a flow" UI. I didn't realise clicking the back was saving the flow to home. Now, I've got several random flows in my overview. 😅
@geffrey Thank you for the feedback on the builder, it's definitely very aggressive about creating those flows. Hopefully you've found how to delete the random flows. 🙃

Really promising! The idea of having a continual flow of habits, without having to check the app to see progress, reduces the resistance that I currently face - having to continually open different apps for meditation, stretches etc, then having to open my habit tracker to tick them off.
This looks like a good replacement.
Have yall read Manna by Brian Marshall? This reminds me of the AI in that short story except instead of our manager hijacking our brain to make us work more, our best self hacks our brain to make our lives better.
I just switched from an early morning call schedule to a late night schedule here in Taipei so I'm excited to build out my morning flow with autopilot!
@zencephalon wow just used it this morning here in taipei. that is a gamechanger. i so often go to bed with a plan for the morning and then i wake up and snooze until my first meeting and then play the rest of my day on defense. this morning, i woke up to my first alarm, opened autopilot and I feel like I won the day before my meetings even started. made it so easy to actually have a morning routine.
I love the concept and, in practice, it's amazing too! The UX is great and I can't wait to use my first "build" tomorrow morning :) My only question is: how can I have my build get triggered automatically after turn off my alarm in the morning?
@jacob_sheldon Hey Jacob, that's a really great question. On iOS it poses a technical / product challenge due to the restrictions on that platform. We could send a notification in the morning but that's unlikely to wake you if you've got DnD mode on. I want to make it possible to wake you up in the morning if you open our app before going to sleep. The app would effectively run all night in the background. Not the most elegant solution.

Awesome! Love the idea of having "reliably awesome days." Very excited to do that with Autopilot :)
