Hey PH! Summer here, founder of Beni. I built Beni because most “AI companions” still feel like a text box with a personality skin. The moment you stop typing, the presence disappears. I wanted the opposite: something you can actually call, that reacts in real time, and that feels consistent across days, not just within one chat session. Beni is a video call first AI companion with a Live2D avatar. She responds with voice, expressions, and motion, and she builds long term memory you can control. The goal is simple: make the interaction feel more like hanging out with someone, not prompting a model. Our approach evolved a lot while building this. We started thinking the hard part was “better replies.” It turned out the hard part was timing and coherence: aligning voice, motion, and response so it feels natural, plus designing memory so it’s useful without being creepy. So we focused on presence, latency, and user controlled memory, and only then polished the personality layer. Would love feedback on a few things: 1. What kind of ai companion do you imagine? 2.
