BetterViewer - The image viewer your browser should have had
by•
BetterViewer 3.0 replaces your browser's built-in image viewer. Open any image in a tab and it opens in BetterViewer, ready to zoom, annotate and edit. Crop, straighten, adjust colors, use levels & curves, remove backgrounds with AI, extract text (OCR) and scan QR codes. Add arrows, text, emoji, blur and spotlights. Everything runs on your device, and it's free and open source. Available for Chrome, Firefox and Edge, or try the web version with no install.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I'm Adem, the maker of BetterViewer.
I started BetterViewer back in 2021 because I was tired of how basic the browser's built-in image viewer is: you can zoom a little, and that's about it. Thousands of people have used it since, and the feedback over the years shaped this release.
When Chrome moved to Manifest V3, version 2 had to drop some features, including the one people loved most: images opening in BetterViewer automatically. So for 3.0 I rebuilt everything from scratch.
What's new in 3.0:
🖼️ Images you open in a tab open in BetterViewer automatically again
🎨 Real editing: crop, straighten, perspective, adjustments, levels & curves
✂️ AI background removal and text extraction (OCR), running on your device
✏️ Annotations: arrows, shapes, text, emoji, blur zones, spotlight and layers
⚡ Quick launch: press Ctrl+K to find any action
Everything runs locally, so your images stay on your device, and the project is free and open source.
You can try it right now without installing anything:

I'd love your feedback: what do you use your browser's image viewer for, and what's missing? I'll be here all day to answer questions. 🙏
