Hey Product Hunt! πŸ‘‹ I'm Tom, solo founder of Brightcast. I built this because I was tired of feeling worse after reading the news. Turns out 73% of heavy news consumers report mental health issues β€” and yet the world is actually getting better by almost every measure. That disconnect bothered me. Brightcast isn't a feel-good filter. Every article is verified and scored by our Brightcast Impact Score (BIS), and your reading directly funds real environmental and social projects through Hope Coins. I wanted to build something where staying informed actually makes things better β€” for you, your children and for the world. I'm a solo dev based in Appenzell (Switzerland), built this with Next.js + React Native on a CHF 150/month budget. Would love your feedback on what categories or features matter most to you. Stop doomscrolling. Start hopescrolling. πŸŒπŸ’š

Hey Product Hunt πŸ‘‹

I'm Tom, solo maker of Brightcast. I live in Switzerland with my wife and two teenage children, and I built this because about 18 months ago I noticed something uncomfortable: my children were forming their picture of the world from headlines that left them quietly anxious β€” and I wasn't much better, doomscrolling on the couch after they went to bed.

The problem isn't that bad things happen. It's that good things happen too β€” real climate progress, medical breakthroughs, community wins β€” and we almost never hear about them. Outrage just converts better than hope.

Brightcast is my attempt to fix that:

🌱 Brightcast Impact Score (BIS)
β€” every story gets a verified score for hope, reach and credibility. Not vibes. Actual signals.

πŸ“° An editorial layer on every article
β€” a "Why It Matters," a "Bigger Picture," and an "Apparently…" one-liner for when you only have 10 seconds.

πŸͺ™ Hope Coins
β€” reading and sharing funds real environmental and social projects. You're not just consuming, you're contributing.

It's live on iOS, Android and web, publishing ~180 stories an hour. All verified, all positive-but-not-naive.

What I'd genuinely love feedback on:

  • Does the Impact Score help you decide what to read, or is it noise?

  • Is the editorial layer useful, or too much?

  • What category feels under-represented?

And one open question for everyone here: what was the last piece of news that genuinely made your day?
