The ESPN app (at least on Android) is surprisingly terrible at notifications. They don't offer a way to customize at a deeper level so it's basically all or nothing when it comes to getting alerts for breaking news or your favorite teams.

Tested the Courier tech, and wow (!) it is simple. Think Twilio for notifications. Devs plug into Courier and setup/manage notifications across medium in minutes. Really excited about this one.
