Dull — social media. less of it. - Instagram without Reels. YouTube without Shorts. That's it.

Dull loads Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and X with the addictive parts already stripped out. No Reels. No Shorts. No algorithmic feeds. What stays: posts, Stories, DMs, subscriptions, long-form videos — everything you actually opened the app for. What else: daily time limits, quiet hours, friction gates before opening, grayscale mode, usage tracking. Optional PIN lock and 24-hour commitment delay so you can't undo your own rules at midnight. Not a wellness app. Just a filter.

Hey PH 👋 I'm Kaspar, I built Dull. The idea is simple: I wanted to check Instagram without losing 45 minutes to Reels. So I built a browser that loads the real mobile web versions of social apps with the short-form content and algorithmic feeds stripped out. It uses CSS/JS injection in a WebView. Three layers: network-level URL blocking, CSS hiding at page load, and a MutationObserver that catches anything the platform injects after the fact. No VPN, no proxy, no data leaves your phone. What surprised me building this: removing Reels isn't enough. You also need tools for when you still spend too long on the "clean" version. That's why I added time limits, quiet hours, friction gates (a small challenge before opening — research shows it cuts impulsive opens by 57%), and grayscale mode. The hardest design decision: making the bypass-prevention optional. Dull has a 24-hour commitment delay and PIN lock, but both are opt-in. The whole point is that YOU set the rules, not the app. iOS only for now. $3.99/mo or $14.99/yr with a 3-day free trial. Would love to hear what you think — and which platforms or features you'd want next.
