Building a keyboard-first AI assistant for macOS — looking for feature ideas

by

Hey everyone 👋

I’m working on Echoo, a macOS AI assistant designed to reduce context switching while working with text.

The idea is simple: instead of jumping between apps to rewrite text, summarize emails, adjust tone, or extract information, Echoo works directly on selected text using keyboard shortcuts — right where you’re already working.

This started as an internal tool at work and ended up saving a few hours each week for teammates. Based on that feedback, I’m getting ready to release it more broadly and wanted to open the discussion early.

Echoo currently supports multiple AI models and setups, including Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT, as well as local models via Ollama or LocalAI, and LiteLLM for custom or routed configurations.

At this stage, I’m mainly looking for concrete ideas on what to add next:

  • New commands or shortcuts you’d want

  • Power-user features you’d expect

  • Missing capabilities you feel tools like this should have

Appreciate any ideas or suggestions 🙏
