Hi Product Hunt 👋 Last week we launched Flicka as a web app: a screen recorder that lives in a browser tab. We learned a lot, including why it had to become an extension. A web page can't draw on other pages. The moment you're recording, the thing you most want to do is point at something, circle it, or blur an email address, and a tab can't reach any of that. So Flicka 1.0 is a Chrome extension, and the recorder, library, and editor all live in it. What's new • One sentence is the whole recorder: "Record this tab with my mic and auto-zoom." Click a word to change it. • Draw, highlight, add arrows and text, and blur on the page while you record. Or hide the bar completely. • Tab, screen, window, a drawn area, or just your camera. • A take is saved as it records, so if Chrome crashes you get it back. • Word-by-word captions, made on your computer. Your audio is never sent anywhere. • Camera layouts that move: bubble, side by side, or camera only, eased on the timeline. Still true: nothing you record is uploaded, and no account is needed to record, edit, or export. It's free to use; Pro removes the watermark and adds MP4, 4K, captions, and the rest. Works in Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Arc on Mac and Windows. I'd love to know what you'd record with it, and what's missing.

Keeping everything on device is nice, especially when you’re recording something with customer info on screen.

 That's exactly the case that pushed me to keep it local. If customer data is on screen, the recording shouldn't take a round trip through someone's server just to get cropped

I’ve definitely forgotten to blur something until after recording being able to do it while recording is useful.

 Same experience is what motivated it - noticing mid-take beats re-recording the whole thing

The one sentence recording setup is a cool idea. Less clicking around before you actually start.

 Thanks - the goal was that by the time you've read the sentence back, you've already configured the recording.

Can you move or adjust the auto zooms after recording? That would be really useful.

 Yes! Every auto-zoom becomes a block on the timeline after recording - you can drag it to move it, stretch it to change its duration, dial the zoom level between 1.1× and 4×, or delete it and double-click to add your own. The auto part is just the starting point

The crash recovery part caught my attention. Losing a recording halfway through is the worst.

 Thanks! It was born from exactly that pain. The recording is written to disk every second while you record, so if the tab or browser dies mid-take, you reopen Flicka and the take is there — auto-zooms included, since the cursor data is saved along with it.
