Partner program for agencies: Is commission even attractive? 🤔

by•

Hey everyone!

I'm planning what's next for Flowdy — a keyword highlighting tool for Shopify product pages.

I'm considering building a partner program with commission for agencies and freelancers who work with Shopify merchants. But before I do, I want to make sure it's something people actually want.

A few questions:

  • Is this something you'd be interested in?

  • Is a commission model attractive for a smaller app like this, or not really?

  • What would make a partner program worth joining for you?

If you have any thoughts, drop a comment below — I'd love to hear from you!

I'd be interested if it's easy to manage. Simple tracking, clear commission rules and no long-term lock-ins. For smaller apps, trust and usability matter more to me than big commission percentages. If it adds value to my clients, I'm in.

Thanks! Trust and usability are my top priorities too. I'm committed to constant updates and improvements.

No lock-ins for partners or users. I want to keep it flexible.

What if I built a simple dashboard where you can see your referrals, commissions, and updates from me? Maybe even a space for us to exchange feedback?

Would something like that make it easier to join? I really don't want to build this alone. If you're open to working together, I'll make it happen.

Yes. 100%. You don’t really have competition so this is the difference between you staying top of mind in my reco stack or not. It doesn’t have to be aggressive. It’s just another nice rev stream for those of us running agencies. If I can make a few extra bucks it makes it easy to go the extra mile.

Thanks for your comment, really helpful!

I want to grow a community of partners who can help make Flowdy more exciting together.

You mentioned "if I can make a few extra bucks, it makes it easy to go the extra mile." I totally agree. So what kind of setup would work for you?

For example

  • A simple % per referral?

  • A flat bonus per sign-up?

  • Extended trials for your clients?

Let me know if you have any preferences. I'd love to find a way to work together!

@kosuke_gofw some combo of A & C or B and C would feel generous enough. A lot of vendors will sunset the affiliate payout, and I think this is actually really counterproductive. If I'm invested in keeping someone on your platform, I can do that work for you, whereas if I've just gotten a payout for the first two or three or four months, there's no incentive for me to continue to advocate for the continued use of your software (since it is a subscription product). So my humble recommendation would be small payout but for the lifetime of their usage.

I've had your app store page open in another tab for a few weeks now. I'm going to install it on my own shop today.

Thanks for the valuable feedback.

You're absolutely right. If the payout ends after a few months, it only benefits me, and that's not a real partnership. I want Flowdy to grow together with partners, so I've decided to offer continuous incentives as long as the app is being used.

Your suggestion about A+C or B+C was really helpful. For partner referrals, I'm thinking of adding a code at checkout that gives merchants 2 months free. Give me a little time to set this up.

This way, you look good to your clients, and merchants get an easy entry point.

For commission, what do you think about this structure?

  • Commission: 20% of revenue (starting when the subscription begins)

  • Duration: As long as the merchant keeps using Flowdy

  • Bonus: If the merchant stays for 1 year, you get an extra month at 100%

I think this gives you a real reason to keep supporting continued use.

And thanks for considering the install! Please try it out and let me know if it's something you could recommend to your clients. I'm ready to take feedback seriously.
