Are kitty points important for your Product Hunt launch?

by

I often see founders wondering:

“Do kitty points matter for ranking? Should makers have high kitty points before launching?”

The short answer: NO

Kitty points are valuable inside the community. They show who contributes, starts good discussions, and helps keep PH lively. But they don’t affect whether your product gets featured or how it ranks on launch day.

So while it looks cool when someone has 1,000+ kitty points, it’s a community signal, not a launch booster.

Focus on your product, your story, and your community engagement leading up to launch. That’s what moves the needle.

Have you noticed kitty points influencing anything outside of discussions?👇

I read somewhere that accounts without kitty points hold less weight when it comes to supporting launches with upvotes, comments, etc. in the algorithm, as a method of keeping people from making accounts day of launch and artificially boosting their products. Is this not the case?

@cholden_lewis Not exactly. It’s more about the voting itself and is meant as a safeguard against bot attacks or the creation of multiple fake accounts.

Yeah, I see kitty points more as community street cred than a launch booster. @byalexai Do you think they indirectly help by making it easier to get support before launch?

Aleksandar Blazhev

@lina_huchok Indirectly, yes. Why? Because it means you’re active in the forums. And when you’re active here, people follow you. And when people follow you, they get a notification when you launch.

So they definitely bring benefits for the launch, but not directly and they take time.

I don’t quite understand what Kitty points are. I saw that there was a Kitty Awards event, but I missed that part. Could someone please explain?
