Building a personal profile on Product Hunt in 5 steps (Tips, but recommendations are welcome)

I’ve been on Product Hunt for over 1,000 days, and honestly, when I first started, I had no strategy.

I knew I wanted to grow, but I didn’t have a clear plan. I simply liked the platform, and that was enough motivation to spend time here. That time helped me recognise certain ways to “build” a personal brand on Product Hunt.

So I put together a very simple list of 5 steps to create personal branding on this platform:

  1. Be there every day, but make yourself visible (at least comment on something).

  2. Test products from smaller makers, but also check out top launches – give feedback and suggestions.

  3. Try posting in forums – share something wise while also sparking discussion.

  4. Launch something yourself, e.g., your own product, or become a Hunter or Maker.

  5. Fill out your profile properly so people can get to know you better. 😉

Have you noticed any growth tactics on this platform from your side?

Feel free to share them.

As a newbie here, I completely agree point 3! I’ve noticed that commenting and sharing thoughts helps me get noticed and meet new people. Being active every day really makes a difference :D

Nika

@peilan_qin I can see you, and I am recognising your photo. Can approve! :D

@busmark_w_nika Happy to hear that! I'm enjoying my time here so far 😎

Nika

@peilan_qin I feel it the same, sis! :)

There's a Steve Jobs quote about brand - it's that you're always 'depositing in the brand bank or withdrawing from it', I see sharing lessons as depositing, and plugging your biz/product as withdrawing - think it's always good to know which you're doing, and that you never go too far into overdraft!

@dbul Creating a brand and maintaining its reputation is important. In general, The brand is an asset.

Great list, Nika!

For me, the key is just going with curiosity: I spend time testing new launches, DMing makers with feedback, and jumping into forum threads for fun.

My recommendation will be not just filling out your profile, but also showing up curious and helpful every day. Best connections happen there!

Nika

@sanskarix Feedback is always good – people feel so cared about. They are more likely to trust you then :)

The results speak for themselves! I've been trying to do some of these to grow, it's been really nice to connect and chat with people who are similar.

As a relative newcomer, the community aspect of the site is the best asset. Especially given likeminded people are hard to find!

Nika

@theo_crewe_read how long have you been on this platform? :)

Theo Crewe-Read

@busmark_w_nika 18 days! 100% streak haha. What about you?

Nika

@theo_crewe_read That's good. Keep going. :) I am something above 1 thousand.

@busmark_w_nika I'll never be able to catch you but the gap will stay the same haha!

I think the best recommendation is to stay interested in the products, that way you naturally want to talk to others or explore additional products yourself. It’s a small step, but it opens up great opportunities.

Nika

@ixord Curiosity pays off on this platform ;)

@busmark_w_nika I completely agree with you

I've been on PH for 5 years now, but mostly as a lurker. I've always wanted to build my own product, and I felt that lurking on PH from time to time would motivate/inspire me. I've only started being really active since this March, when I started working on @Lifetoon, and it's really nice to be more active in the community!

Nika

@ruxandra_mazilu That's actually a great start and if you managed to launch a new tool, it is a win and it makes you credible! Cheers!

Ilia Ilinskii

Very inspiring! I am here 2 days, but I feel like should come much earlier (FOMO)

Nika

@ilia_ilinskii It is time to be more active here then :D

Ilia Ilinskii

@busmark_w_nika Doing my best ! Thank you :)

Nika

@ilia_ilinskii You are welcome! :)

I agree being active, giving feedback, and completing your profile really helps. Curious to try launching something myself too

Nika

@sahil599 YourGPT wasn't your launch?

PRIYANKA MANDAL

I’ve noticed that genuine engagement goes a long way here, not just upvoting, but leaving thoughtful comments and supporting other makers’ launches. That’s how I started building my Product Hunt presence too.

Nika

@priyankamandal Are you gonna launch something in the near future?
