Conversation I had with a user that changed my pricing

by•

A user told me my product was too cheap. Not a complaint about quality. They said the price made them doubt whether it was serious.

I had spent years worrying that I was too expensive. It never occurred to me that some people read a low price as a warning sign. Cheap can mean accessible, and cheap can also mean fragile.

I raised my prices and lost almost nobody. The people who left had been getting very little value to begin with. The people who stayed told me the product felt more credible.

The lesson was not that higher prices are better. It was that I had been pricing based on my own fear rather than the customer's perception. Those are two completely different conversations.

Have you ever been told your price was wrong in a direction you did not expect? And did you change it?
