Did anything go wrong with payments after you launched?

by•

I’m setting up payments on my website. If you’ve launched a paid product, was there anything that worked fine in testing but broke when real customers started paying? Would like to know what to watch out for.

hi what is your payment integration? Is it a recurring subscription or one-time purchases?

Real customers add specific payment scenarios for you to handle: failed payments, bank disputes, expired cards, etc. All modern payment providers offer great ways to test these scenarios.

Watch for: the types of payment methods used, authorization rates, dispute rates (and probably a manual process to defend them at the start), and webhook delivery errors.

Hope it helps

p.s. sales taxes :) not exactly payments, but very close

One thing worth testing is what happens after payment succeeds but your webhook arrives late or fails. The customer paid, but their account can still look unpaid unless that flow recovers properly.

thanks Yash, how do you usually test for that? especially when the payment goes through but the webhook never arrives

I would say that 99.99% of the time nowadays, it is not "webhook never arrives", but rather the webhook isn't handled properly from the product side
