Has anyone successfully found a middle ground between modular apps and tools?

I used to move all my personal and work data into whatever multi tool was trending that month, hoping it would solve my organization problems.

I got tired of rebuilding setups and dropped the idea of finding the perfect app. Now I just use two core tools, a lightweight scratchpad for instant thoughts and a standard project board for serious tasks.

Keeping the stack small stopped me from constantly tinkering with system preferences every weekend.

Reducing expectations rom a single tool made my daily routine much easier to maintain.

What low-maintenance setup have you actually stuck with for more than six months without tweaking it?
