How much time (as founders) do you spend on social media to build your personal brand?
I've noticed that more and more founders are building their personal brand and prioritising it over building their company's brand (the company account then just reposts the founder's thoughts).
I notice this especially with solo founders.
So I was wondering if you, as founders, are also building your brand. If so:
Which platform is key for you?
How much time do you actually spend on social media vs. creating a product?
What are your proven hacks for building a personal brand?
As for me, it helps a lot to reply often, but then I spend less time creating something. And on socials, I am around 3 hours. :D OK, maybe more.

Its difficult to find time while building product. But im trying to post something every free minute I have. I don't think I spend more than 30-60 minutes a day.
Best for me is Threads, Reddit, TikTok. Twitter can't give me even 1% of what treads give for same posts. And I just joined PH so now I will spend some time here also.

@sergey_kondukov Have fingers crossed for you and your Product Hunt effort. When it comes to X – I think you can have many builder fellows, but fewer customers. Still cannot figure out their algo.
I split it brutally simple:
Mornings → Build. Evenings → Talk.
I treat social like distribution, not a hobby.
LinkedIn + X are the only two that matter for me. one for trust, one for speed.
Actual time spent? 30-40 mins a day max. If it takes longer than that, I’m procrastinating.
Most founders hide behind “building” because it feels productive. But if no one sees your work, it might as well not exist.
My only hack: share the process daily, not the polished outcome. It keeps me consistent without eating my entire day.

@beaconbix How long have you been building your brand, and what are the outcomes (some measurable results)?
@busmark_w_nika Around 2 to 3 months.
Not huge growth yet, but the small wins are kicking in.
How long have you been at it on your side?
minimalist phone: creating folders
@beaconbix I am on socials for 3 years, but dedicated most of my time in the last 2 months to LinkedIn and already have 3 paying sponsors.
@busmark_w_nika That’s solid progress. Getting sponsors this early means your content is doing its job.
What pushed things forward the most for you? The consistency or the platform shift to LinkedIn?

Solo here. LinkedIn for reach, X for signal. ~60–90 min on weekdays, product gets the rest. Hacks: batch on Sunday, schedule 3 posts, reply in two 10‑min windows, use Lists to dodge doomscroll, mute notifs, turn build notes into posts/screens.

@alexcloudstar Wow, you have things in order :D I should take you as a good example of productivity! :D

I'm only at the beginning of this stage myself. I’ve recently realized how important personal branding is here on Product Hunt and in similar communities. It definitely takes a lot of time, and I’m not really creating “personal content” yet. I’m mostly learning, engaging, and trying to be consistent. :)

@tetiana_hryshmanovska It takes time, I have been doing it for 3 years and it feels like I am at the beginning :) Keep going :)

@busmark_w_nika thank you so much for your support 🫶

@tetiana_hryshmanovska You are welcome :)

I believe that the key platforms for promoting oneself or a brand are LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Previously, I spent about two to three hours a day on social media, and afterward, I focused on the product. Of course, I can take short breaks and go back to social media for about ten minutes to respond to people
minimalist phone: creating folders
@ixord I think that it is better to be on social media after work, because they are so energy draining and focus distrupting.

@busmark_w_nika Watching reels or YouTube Shorts definitely drains your energy xd. I do not think that LinkedIn and other social networks distract me that much. I have set times for using social media, though there are occasional exceptions for important messages

I’m a bootstrapped founder, and I spend 4-8h a week on personal brand (mostly videos) + some more for info-marketing for my products.

@juuso_kaari Do you have a channel? If yes, how is it going with that?
Finding this really insightful - I was spending 2-3hs a day pre launch but not getting much out of it. We have a pretty dry topic on our @parentformfiller and its been mostly about discovering the best approach.
I don’t like talking about myself and don’t actually spend much time on personal social media so want to have a more face less presence. Not sure if it will be possible. This discussion is great guidance on things to try.

@parentformfiller Which platforms did you use the most?
I've actually been struggling with personal branding and product branding/go to market. It's a problem we developers have. I prefer writing codes for 8 hours straight than scrolling on social media/creating on social media. It's a problem I'm still battling with.

@layoolar I noticed that people on X (especially developers) from buildinpublic community started showing, and it seems that pays off. You should reconsider it! :)
@busmark_w_nika
I'll work on it. I've been pushing myself recently to start being active on social media. I even set a reminder on it. That's what I have been doing. Maybe a post every 2 days. I will adopt it. And then talk to people. Thanks for the advice. I have a completed product I'm about to launch but I'm so confused how to go about it.😂 It's a skill I'm working on

@layoolar What's the product? :)
I'm a solo founder, and when I learned that some successful people spend 3 hours a day posting and replying on X to build their brand, I was completely overwhelmed.
How do you balance that with actually building the product?
