I just audited my monthly subscriptions and I'm honestly shocked

Software, streaming, gym, cloud storage, newsletter subscriptions, coffee deliveries...

Somewhere along the line, every business decided they needed to be a monthly recurring subscription. And for a while, consumers just went along with it.

But "Subscription Fatigue" is very real right now.

I sat down last weekend to review my bank statements and realized I was paying over $300/month for tools and services I barely touch twice a year. I canceled half of them in 10 minutes.

Buyers are getting aggressive with their cancellations. Do you think companies will be forced to bring back one-time purchases and "pay-as-you-go" pricing soon?

I think both stay, because they fit different products. A tool fits a one-time price, and something that keeps giving, like a membership, fits monthly. Comparing the two doesn't really make sense.

When I set a lifetime price, I base it on how many months a subscription usually lasts. The tricky part now is AI. If every use burns tokens, a lifetime license has to be designed carefully, or the costs eat it.
