If a company sends an AI to interview you, should you be allowed to bring yours?
Imagine joining a first-round interview. There’s no recruiter on the call. An AI asks the questions, records your answers, and evaluates your responses.
You open an AI assistant to help organize your thoughts.
Is that cheating? Or are both sides just using the tools available to them?
My take: using AI to interview candidates should come with a clear explanation of what candidates can use, too.
There’s a difference between pulling up your own project notes, getting help structuring an answer, and having AI invent an answer you couldn’t explain. Treating all three as the same thing feels like a lazy rule.
But “our AI saves time, your AI is cheating” deserves some scrutiny.
If you were hiring for your own team, what would you allow during an AI-led interview, and what would cross the line?
And would your answer change if a human were conducting it?
