The browser Back button trap in multi step forms how do you fix it?

I recently ran into a really annoying bug where a user completed a setup flow landed on the final success screen and then instinctually hit the browser's Back button only to get shoved right back into the middle of the onboarding steps. Turns out using standard client navigation piles up every single step in the history stack.

Swapping those out for a history overwrite (replace) on the final redirect fixed the loop instantly but it makes me wonder if a user actually wants to recheck their previous answers blocking the Back button might feel a bit trapped.

How do you guys handle navigation history in long forms without breaking the user's expected flow?
