What affects your decision-making process about purchase?

At least for me, when I buy something, I consider:

  1. price in relation to time, how long the product will serve me

  2. investment – whether buying the product will generate money for me

  3. benefit – solving a problem, saving time, fulfilling a need

There are also secondary indicators that influence product selection and purchasing behaviour, such as:

  • Country of origin

  • Brand awareness (reputation)

  • Recommendation from close friends/approval from authorities

  • Brand involvement in socially responsible activities, etc.

Do you also consider secondary indicators when buying a product? Which are those?

Recently, I was often asked about the country of origin. When I say "Germany", people are less hesitant and more likely to purchase.

Interesting breakdown. I think the “secondary” indicators often become primary depending on the context.

For example, when I’m buying software as a founder, the brand’s reputation and recommendations from peers often matter as much as the feature set. On the other hand, for everyday purchases, I might lean more on the country of origin or how sustainable the brand feels.

It makes me wonder: are these secondary indicators really “add-ons,” or are they shaping most of our buying decisions without us realizing it?

@andreitudor14 I think that in the AI era, these will be differentiators.
