What's the worst onboarding you've sat through recently?
Not naming names for my own product here, someone else's tool burned me last week. 14 questions before I even got to see a real screen. Company size, use case, "how did you hear about us", team size again but phrased differently. By question 9, I was just clicking random answers to get to the app.
Never even got there properly. Closed the tab, opened it again two days later out of guilt, got hit with a slightly different set of questions because apparently my first run didn't save. That was it for me.
I get why teams do this. Sales wants the data, PM wants segmentation, everyone wants to personalize the experience before you've done anything. But if I haven't touched the product yet, you don't know enough about how I'll actually use it to personalize anything. You're just guessing with extra steps.
I am curious what's the worst version of this you've run into. Drop it here, no need to be nice about it:
Name the product
What went wrong
What you wish they'd done instead
Feels like free UX research for anyone building an onboarding flow right now, so might as well make use of it.
