Why do most welcome emails feel like automated cold calls?

Signed up for a new service recently. Usually, welcome emails go straight to my archive folder without being read. I was ready for the standard automated marketing pitch.
Instead the founder sent a short two-line note. Just asking what I was working on. No fake urgency. No countdown timers. No pushing me to buy a yearly plan immediately.
I don't even remember what the original discount offer was. But I remember feeling like there's an actual human behind the screen. That probably says something.

what landed is not the tone. it is that the message could not have been written before you existed.
every standard welcome email was finished months ago and addressed to a category. a two line question is the first thing in the sequence that only you can answer.
and the reason you still remember it is not the two lines. it is that a reply would have gone somewhere.
