The Pitch by Gimlet Media - Real entrepreneurs pitch to real investorsโ€”for real money

The Pitch is a podcast that takes you behind closed doors to the critical moment when aspiring entrepreneurs put it all on the line. Each episode delivers on the high-stakes promise of a live pitch without shying away from the nitty gritty details of what happens after everyone shakes hands and walks out of the room.

I went on The Pitch this season and absolutely loved it. The investors are top notch and the episodes are very engaging (hopefully ours will be as well - it's coming out soon). Highly recommend for entrepreneurs and for listeners. Super grateful to Josh & team for putting together such an awesome thing.

Having been one of the entrepreneurs to be featured on their podcast "Can Tech Solve Americaโ€™s Drug Crisis? (#37, inRecovery)", I can tell you the incredible experience this was.

I was introduced to Josh Muccio through my accelerator, Startup Health. From the very first conversation, Josh was so energetic and positive and fun. His passion for his podcast (which he started before Gimlet acquired him) was really inspiring. As an entrepreneur himself he really understands what his featured startups are going through. So he does an excellent job at curating great entrepreneurs to come and pitch on their startup.

I flew up to SF for the recording in February 2018, met them at a super cool studio and it was on. The investors started rolling in one by one and you start getting a little nervous as it starts hitting you that it's game time.

The recording process was actually extremely fun. All the investors are highly respected in the tech space - you don't get this type of face-to-face with this caliber of investors every day.

All super friendly, having their cup of coffee and ready and excited to talk to you. Even Michael Hyatt, who is characterized as the hard ass on the show, is actually SUPER nice and an amazing human being.

We recorded for about an hour, the dialogue was much like what you'd have in an actual conference room with a VC firm. This is what's so unique about The Pitch, it's real. Very real. This is the closest you'll get to being a co-founder and sitting behind closed doors at a VC's office. Such a unique and rare experience - so if you're an entrepreneur, or thinking about starting a business, or just love startup stories, definitely recommend The Pitch.

I'm very honored that Josh had me on the show and very thankful for the experience. You guys have a life long listener. I learn something new every time I listen. Keep it up!

Pros:

The closest you'll get to being a co-founder :) The format very much how it's like behind closed doors in a real life pitch with VCs.

Cons:

Unfortunately, only an edited version released. I'd love to listen to the "uncut" series, as there's so much more to every pitch.

@joshmuccio So proud of you for your podcast. You and the team out there rock! It was such an honor being able to pitch to @ManusJillian, @nicoleverkindt, @mhyattspeaker, and @chudson for inRecovery.org. Really awesome experience and sooooo fun!! I'd love to listen to an "uncut" series of the show. There's sooo much more to every pitch, from my own experience, that doesn't make it to the final edit. I think it could be really cool and the hardcore tech nerds, like myself, and fans would totally love it. You guys are amazing and so very proud of you and all you've achieved and continue to achieve. Keep it up!!
Josh Muccio
@manusjillian @nicoleverkindt @mhyattspeaker @chudson @dsarabia hey David! Thank you so much for your support ๐Ÿ™ You're not the only one to request an uncut version of the show. In fact, we used to have The Pitch Insider which allowed people to pay 5 or 10 bucks a month for the uncut versions. But it didn't survive the move to Gimlet Media ๐Ÿ˜ผ

I'm a big fan of The Pitch and I'm proud to have been in the number of the original listeners who was an "insider" before they were acquired by Gimlet. I appreciate the platform that they have created for founders (especially women and POC) but also the intentional nature in which they try to close the loop on "what happens after". I think that's normally what's missing on shows like Shark Tank. Big #shoutout to Josh, Lisa, and their entire team. The only thing I wish happened more often was that the episodes were a little longer. Or maybe even do a quarterly "since you last heard them" update episode. :D
Josh Muccio
@onebandwagonfan thanks Harold :) I can't guarantee the episodes will get longer but maybe we should bring back The Pitch Insider!? What's a reasonable price for that anyway? I think it was $9 before... but that seems a bit steep. I'm thinking $3 bucks a month would be more reasonable yeah?
Harold Hughes
@joshmuccio as an entrepreneur, I'd definitely pay $3!

Love the show! My wife and I listen to every episode as soon as they are released!
Josh Muccio
@graberjason thank you Jason ๐Ÿ™

This podcast follows in line with many of the other great shows from Gimlet Media. Josh does a great job hosting and the investors each bring their own take with their investment theses so you get multiple points of view. It's one of the podcasts I look forward to each week.

Pros:

Each week the show has a different entrepreneur from a different industry. It's entertaining, drama filled and you learn about a new field.

Cons:

New episodes aren't released daily ;-)

The Pitch is awesome. I did my Pitch this Summer and really enjoyed the experience. @joshmuccio and his team are great, and the investors in the panel are also very savvy. Looking forward to my episode coming out in September (about Playven.com - OpenTable for sports)
Matteo Terrevazzi

some of the investors are truely exceptional and you learn the real issues of the investment community

Pros:

Carefully edited product, one of my favorite podcasts, John is an amazing host

Cons:

The podcast should follow the companies over the medium term to track down their development after a year or so since the pitch

Mitra Raman

Love this podcast and Start-Up from Gimlet

Pros:

Real pitches, great insight from investors, learn about new companies

Cons:

None
