HEY - Email at its best, new from Basecamp

by
Email deserves a dust off. A renovation. Modernized for the way we email today.
With HEY, we’ve done just that. It’s a redo, a rethink, a simplified, potent reintroduction of email. A fresh start, the way it should be.

What email needs is not a better frontend but a better backend. I had a similar inclination about 20 years ago that a better design could 'fix the email inbox'. Then I realized it was SMTP and the lack of digital signatures that brought insurmountable problems to the entire inbox paradigm and the problem of spam. Thankfully the problem went away with social media, and the inbox has been replaced by the algorithm (the feed) for most purposes. This looks like a nice experiment but I don't see myself running on the hamster wheel, trying to manually plug all the holes in archaic email protocol for not much gain. End to end encryption, powerful search is all I need at this point.

Following up @dhh 's hustle on Twitter very keenly. Just love the passion he is showing up going all in and against a giant like Apple. All the best!

Looks great to me. I will likely call the imbox my inbox from habit. I'm not sure I get enough email to use the features fully. Unless I can connect my work email, that is.

Had a look at this the other day and looks really smart! Just waiting for Gmail to come along and steal the features...

Well, I didn’t try Hey, because it’s not easy to try and I’m not planning on renting my email client for 100$ a year, but the way it is advertised along with “Imbox” name-innovation sounds like some dystopia-movie speech (or even dystopia parody)

?makers - how good are your filters, a I truly rate an email client by how well I can filter email - as most of the email I receive is about as useful as a carpenter's nail made out of a sponge ...
