The hardest part of AI resume tailoring was knowing what not to write
While building HireKey, we kept running into a difficult balance.
A tailored resume should make real experience easier to recognize. But a stronger-sounding bullet can quietly imply ownership or impact the person never claimed. And copying language from a job description can make a resume look relevant without making it more convincing.
We kept coming back to three questions:
Is this claim supported by the original resume?
Does the wording make the candidate’s actual contribution clearer?
Would the candidate feel comfortable explaining it in an interview?
That last question became especially useful. If someone couldn’t stand behind the sentence in a real conversation, it didn’t belong on their resume.
For those building with generative AI: what was the hardest boundary to get right in your product?
