The moment you release it, people want to redownload what they have paid for. After trying it manually, you release the purchase history. Then, something goes wrong and people paid, but didn't get the image. Support must handle it, and since they can't connect to our database, developers should help with each case. Then, people add a minor edit and don't want to pay again. So you measure the amount of change they've made. Then, we created the discounted packs. So we had to measure the number of credits each person has, and confirm spending a credit. Then, this complicated backend slows done the website. Each time a customer accesses an item, you have to check if she paid for it. I know some services that are slow just because of that. * Consequence * At the end of the day, you don't develop the new products and features but service your complicated monetization. After we dropped all the complicated plans, we started delivering like crazy. * Solution * Simplify the billing. Either one pricing model or another, but not both mixed. In particular, I like SaaS: it's a godsend for the simplicity of the billing. We appreciate you as a customer, but we better serve you for free. That's why I keep insisting we have a generous free part.
