An introduction
Hi guys! My name is Christian and I made BrackIt. A little bit about me, I went to school for audio engineering and I love music. I spent a few years working in studios, working at music schools, and playing in bands. After Covid hit, that kind of slowed down, and I found myself making music in my bedroom and just having fun. Fast forward a few years and my cousin and I had an idea about starting a sports league. After two years, I'm proud to say we've built a successful league with a ton of participants from our community and it's been quite a journey to get to where we're at currently.
One thing that always frustrated us was building schedules. There's a ton of scheduling websites out there that create tournaments in a few clicks and that's great, but I had a lot of factors I had to take into consideration when creating schedules.
Multiple sublocations, 6 games in a season but 8 teams registered, certain teams that shouldn't play against each other, and so on. I wanted to create the best experience for our players and conventional schedulers weren't cutting it. I started attempting to do it by hand using Excel. That was great until five or six weeks in and I realized I had one team playing another too many times, and another team missing a matchup against another team. Then I had to start over. Five hours wasted.
So I learned how to create an app and set my sights on solving my own problem. I reached out to other organizers I worked with, asked them to download the app, and give me their opinions on what they would look for when making a tournament. I created BrackIt to save me a ton of hours (although I probably spent just as much making the app), and I hope others find it as useful as I do when managing tournaments.
Our product launches today and if you have a minute, I hope you can check it out. I've spent 9 months building it and it may not be perfect, but I hope it helps at least a few of you out there.
